the Z has TOTAL retail SF of 33,000.. that's between both of the 'zags' though.. so realistically you're right the biggest space they could take [[by taking and entire half of the Z) would be just under 17,000... that's still pretty damn massive for a bar/restaurant...
the D&Bs in Utica is 55,000 and the Livonia one is 40,000. So apparently there is a market for places like this. Remains to be seen if downtown detroit can support it. The Livonia D&B has had to institute all sorts of security and strict dress codes to keep gang violence under control.

Gang problems in Livonia, whooda thunk it? I'm sure glad they opted out of mass transit. We certainly don't want those types coming into Detroit.

The real rough gangs come from across the freeway... That is Northville ya know! Come in on horses I hear. Real Liberty Valance stuff.

Livonia isn't exactly prosperous these days. The east end, near Redford and Detroit, is visibly struggling. Plymouth Rd. looks pretty bad.

Anyways, if this opens, hopefully the crowd is slightly less idiotic than at D&B, both locations of which are known for fights.

I would think that the Old Kresge's could fit the bill with it taking most of the basement, first and second floors.

I think it would be cool to see something like this in that site, but arcades, like casinos, usually don't have windows. The Kresge building has wide open windows IIRC. If it does go downtown it'll probably go inside something that's sealed up like a basement... or maybe an old theater.

Here is a similar concept in Cleveland in an old Dime Store. It is a great space and draws a big crowd: http://www.thecorneralley.com/photo-tour/

Are those actual windows? Been a while since I've been to a D&B, but I don't recall being able to see outside from inside.

They could put the restaurant out in front by the windows and have the gaming area behind and below or something.

National Theater? Would fit in Gilbert's so-called "entertainment district" on Monroe between Greektown and Campus Martius
