Donald Trump threatens to cut off federal funding to Michigan over mail-in voting.

There sure will be a big change in Michigan if President Trump cuts off Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, WIC and military spending in Michigan. Closing the Michigan NOAA offices will not help. And will the census count cease in Michigan?

    ^^^ We're a swing state, vote-wise. I guess Trump's forgotten about all of his republican supporters, eh-um.............

Is he throwing in the towel in keeping Michi as a repub foothold?

Don't you have to be registered to vote in Mich?
Are all 7.7 million ballots going to 7.7 million registered adults?

After you receive the application, you have to fill it in and return it to your local City/Village/Township Clerk who then checks it against voter rolls to see if you are registered. If not, you don't get the ballot. If you are, you do.
Also, most of those 7.7 million applications will never be filled out.
They aren't mailing "ballots" but applications for ballots.

My advice to the Dan Wessons of the world would be to STOP listening to Donald Trump's lies.

    https://thehill.com/homenews/news/49...ns-not-ballots

President Trump tweeted early on Tuesday claiming that Michigan sent “absentee ballots to 7.7 million people ahead of Primaries and the General Election.” He alleged that the move was done “illegally by a rogue Secretary of State.”

Benson responded to the president, saying, “Hi! I also have a name, it’s Jocelyn Benson. And we sent applications, not ballots. Just like my colleagues in Iowa, Georgia, Nebraska and West Virginia,” in a tweet.
So just to re-cap for Dan: These are applications for a ballot being mailed, NOT actual ballots. Plenty of other states are doing the same thing, including red states, but the red states aren't being singled out for attacks by Trump. And, finally, Trump was LYING when he claimed that Benson was sending "7.7 million absentee ballots." That was a demonstrated, provable lie. He's lying. Please stop parroting his lies.

President Trump's new Michigan policy seems to imply he is giving up on
Michigan in this election. This suggests he may be throwing John James
under the bus. I didn't think John James did anything to deserve such
    treatment.

^ He is just messing with her, notice how California was not exactly on his Christmas list [[or anybody else’s) before but you do not hear them every day screaming on the news and he has directed plenty of help their way.

He does not even have to power to cut off anything without congressional approval, that was already settled in California when he threatened to cut off funds because of their sanctuary city polices.

He is the president, not some all powerful dictator.

    The other one said

No voter should have to choose between their health and their vote?

All the women and minority’s that went through generations fighting and even died while exercising and even obtaining their right to vote,

That is like a big slap in the face to them.

Oregon mailed out the forms that changed the status of thousands of republicans to no preference which threw them out of time to vote and in essence removed their right to vote the party of choosing.

Richard, a pity you never took a logic course... you would have seen the 40+ logic debate fallacies, some of which you use in your arguments...

    7. Hasty Generalization

A hasty generalization is a general statement without sufficient evidence to support it. A hasty generalization is made out of a rush to have a conclusion, leading the arguer to commit some sort of illicit assumption, stereotyping, unwarranted conclusion, overstatement, or exaggeration.

I can't speak to James per se, but gov. Witmere on one hand self-distracted in her quest for VP, has on the other hand already responding to Trumps [[and his base) fiscal leverage:

Reducing the lock-downs in mid and upper parts of Michigan).

    Check mate?

Do you really think she's vying for the VP spot? Honest question. I keep hearing it but usually, it's from people that can't stand her and how she's handling the situation with the virus. I really don't believe that's the case.

In case you were wondering if Donald Trump wore a face mask [[as is required by both executive order and Ford Motor Company policy) during his tour of the Ford factory in Ypsilanti that is making ventilators...he did not.

He's on t.v. right now claiming he was honored several years ago as "Man of the Year in Michigan".

That's a lie he's told on many occasions. There is NO record of him winning any such award, nor any group willing to verify that they gave him such an award. He just flat out made it up because there is something legitimately wrong with this man's brain.

Astrawman is a fallacious argument that distorts an opposing stance in order to make it easier to attack. Essentially, the person using the strawman pretends to attack their opponent’s stance, while in reality they are actually attacking a distorted version of that stance, which their opponent doesn’t necessarily support.

You are absolutely correct Gistok, women and minorities have never had to fight for their right to vote.

    Sorry for providing false information.

You were so worried about logic that you completely ignored context, and went out of your way to do it.

You mentioned logic but forgot to apply it.

Really I do not know why he wastes his time in Michigan, clearly everybody has a hard on for him,he should just put it at the bottom of the list.

Maybe they can put their best choice of candidates up for president, after he gets out of prison.

She's had 'conversations' about it... [[and not just reported from the cranks):

Whitmer says she's had 'opening conversation' on VP potential

    https://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne...al/5219350002/

    https://www.freep.com/story/news/pol...an/5219309002/

Further, it's not just the easy-to-dismiss, Lansing visit 'gun carrying' crowd unhappy with Whitmere. There's a percentage of Detroiter's who are challenging her on various areas as well! Not reported on this blog.

As I recall she didn't win by a landslide in Detroit.

Anyway, it looks like Biden in moving towards Klobuchar so we can all move-on beyond a Whitmere run:

Thanks to Miguel Cabrera for a 250,000 dollar donation to Detroit children's charities. Before anyone says it's no big deal for these rich athletes, they still have to step up and do it. Cabrera and a lot of other Venezuelan players do a lot for their impoverished homeland as well, although it's not easy to get the help in the right hands with the current political climate.
