    Um... not true.... yes this has been a problem since the beginning of this century... but "no real action" is not competely accurate.

    Back in 2003 the state and EPA spent many millions of dollars to remove 24,000 Tons of soil and sediment from the canals and affected area.

    ... only to have them re-contaminated from the drains and a pollution source supposedly in the Harper Ave. & Bon Brae St area. They have had the federal government involved for years, and spent many additional millions digging up that stretch of Harper Ave. looking for the source of the pollutants.

    Originally they thought that there were some transformers buried there, and were leaching PCBs into the ground and drains. However, all that digging did not find the hoped for results. Now they are wondering if perhaps the source of the PCBs wasn't another souce, perhaps as a dust control spray from when many roads in the area had dirt parking lots back in the 1960s and 1970s, as just one possibility.

    The problem is that they still don't know the source... and perhaps may never find it.

    But the government agencies are not sitting on their hands.
