I should clarify...in a free nation [[the US), everyone has equal access and opportunity for prosperity.

This is the most important reason to resist and fight against the tyranny that is Obama style radical liberalism as he/it threatens our basic freedoms. With these freedoms comes responsibility.

If I was a homeless New Yorker, I'd be on the first plane to San Diego...stat!

If you read the articles, it says they ONLY offer a ticket out of town if the individual[[s) have a confirmed option outside of town.

Translation: They are not from NYC to begin with, and only came to NYC because it is the only city on earth that guarantees shelter as a right.
LOL... is the concept of "out of town relatives" that difficult to comprehend?

Not difficult to comprehend at all. New York is reneging on a socialist program because its' costs and quality are such that critical mass is being reached. As is always the case with socialist entitlements...a steady march towards unsustainability and collapse.

That's funny; I thought it was unbridled capitalism that marched steadily towards unsustainability for the last decade and only recently [[and narrowly) averted collapse by means of a [[socialist) bailout for the banking industry.

As usual, your dogma is interfering with your memory.

You "thought" nothing...you were brainwashed into believing that liberal fallacy by the liberal media.

By "liberal media" you mean Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke? There's a liberal pair, for sure!

Why does this have to be a bad idea? Sending homeless people back home to people who love them and have wondered, worried whatever happened to their family member? It isn't something being forced upon the homeless, it's an option-isn't it?

I had a brother who took off from home as a young adult. We didn't hear a word from him and he stayed gone for over 10 years. Just as my mother was dying, he returned. No, he wasn't homeless. But it did make me think perhaps some of these families are much relieved to finally know where their relative is or had been and they are willing to get the person help they need. Liberal or conservative-nothing to do with this. And it is a better option than fromer mayor
    Rudy Guliani offered his homeless.

If these family members really wanted them, wouldn't they have done something about it before now?

Not necessarily. Perhaps, relatives of homeless people don't know what the internet can do for them, or can't afford to hire a private eye to help to locate their family member. Besides, if someone's on the street-homeless, how hard would it be to locate them? The internet wouldn't provide any help-because they don't have an address. The only way you could find someone would be if there are getting Federal assistance like SSI or ADC. The homeless don't very often get that help.

And in my family's case, my brother went to CA, and never returned or sent word home for ten years. He was overseas as it turned out and for whatever reason didn't feel the need to contact home. Probably some teenage angst [[in his own head) was the cause of it. But it was funny how he returned in time to let my mother know he was alive before she died.

    Mama Jackson,
    Thank you for sharing that.

Cc is just a one-note poster, he cannot comprehend anything outside himself.

    Very sad.

Their families don't want them, NY doesn't want them...let's just round 'em up and shoot 'em. Problem solved.

Or how about they treat them as responsible individuals. Fend for yourself, or don't...but don't look to taxpayers to support them in perpetuity.

CC really you can't be serious...please tell me you have som e level of compassion for the 23% of homeless people that are mentally ill? Man what would have proposed during the great depression...when you look at these people as human first and then ask why they are there it may just surprise you...I had more faith in you...cycles of homelessness are not just choices...there are stories behind them, and yes some are generational...

OK...first address the 82% that aren't mentally ill....note I accept the 23% stat, but don't know that it is at all accurate.
