I'm glad this was posted. I've stared at it for many minutes. I love how much bigger we are than Cleveland. But I'm shocked at how it looks like the lights have gone out in Flint.
More light ≠ bigger. More light = more sprawl, which isn't much to be proud of.
Take greater Toronto, the city Canada loves to hate for its sprawl, with 1 million more people than Metro Detroit. Yet look how much smaller than Detroit it appears on this image.
I'm sorry, as an American, I have no idea where Toronto is on that map.
Still looking for type of LED lights used. Found a report prepared for the US DOE that summarizes the change over. Est. 2.9 Million dollar annual savings in energy costs!
Pretty impressive.
Also pointed out deficiencies in the old system including manual switches that had to be cycled twice daily which left some lights on during the day because no-one was available to turn them off!

As a Canadian I can't get over how small Ottawa is.
Did I get the entire area? It's been 35 years, however I have been. Beautiful, clean and modern city.
Brighter isn't always good. Check out the Dark Sky Association's website.
Are Detroits LED's narrow spectrum???
