Speaking of institutional or overt racism, I was shocked the Detroit News editors allowed this quote in their article yesterday about the Cass Corridor.

"White people, and the money, came to Midtown; it's a blessing. It's better than Southfield," he said.

Of course, someone can easily justify it as a "homeless person quote" - but, by the same token, you can get a homeless person to say anything you want, to proliferate one's racist views.
