Detroit City Apartments is another good one with a roofdeck etc downtown. The views are pretty incredible and the rent for a 1BR is still in the 900 range. This would be my top choice. Even has attached parking garage. http://www.villagegreen.com/detroit/...tments/photos/

If you're looking downtown, I agree about getting in soon, vacancy is very low. I live in DCA and have no complaints. It's a good value for what you get. For 12-1500, you could also get a 2br at DCA, if the space appeals to you. Millender Center near the riverfront is another good option, although the apartments/amenities are fairly similar to DCA and more expensive.

If you're looking for something a little nicer in the 1br realm, check out Lofts of Merchant's Row, Lofts at Woodward Place, and Broderick Tower. There's really no reason to get a studio with your budget.

I'd recommend downtown personally, but you could also look in Midtown or Corktown. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck there and they're still good locations with a decent amount of activity.

Is the job downtown? What kinds of things do you enjoy doing for fun?

Welcome! At that price range you can find something nice. As the others said, downtown, Midtown, or Lafayette Park are good bets.

Be forewarned: This region [[and some members of this board) are very anti-Detroit. In a matter of moments some nutsack is going to come on here and say "Move to Allen Park!!! That's a city too!!!1 There's a Meijer!!!111" or some other assorted nonsense. Also be prepared for some of your more ......y colleagues to say "Dude, bro, you live in Detroit, you're gonna get murdered." You're not, unless your job is dealing drugs.

I can't say the name of a feminine hygiene product on this board? This is America, damnit!

Yes it's downtown. You guys gave great suggestions, I'll be in the D next week to check on some places firsthand. As for fun I'm a sports junkie lol. I've heard how nice Hockeytown [[I think that's the name right?) Is. I'm also a music lover of all types, Love to go to concerts.

In that case, I'd definitely look at the places in the Entertainment District near all the theaters and stadiums [[Kales, Broderick, DCA, Claridge). The Fillmore is probably the biggest venue when it comes to concert, which is right in that area. Fyfe is also in that area but is a little lower in the price range. Lofts of Merchants Row and Lofts at Woodward Place are relatively close as well.
