Thanksgiving is here, and I've got to take a pie with me to my parents.
Anybody have any suggestions on getting a good pumpkin or apple pie?
Thanks!

If you plan on crossing 8 Mile Road, please avoid the following stores, because once you arrive at them the signs will be gone and everything will be boarded up.

Yesterday I stopped @ the "pop-up" coffee shop on Agnes & Van Dyke, [[where the Harlequin Cafe used to be, don't know the name, sorry), and I believe they were taking orders for carmel apple crumb pie. I wouldn't wait until the last minute to find out, though. The scones were to die for.
Josef's Bakery on Mack Ave. 4 blocks N. of Vernier in Grosse Pointe Woods has great pies... but they are pricey. Nino Salvaggio's also has good pies [[there's one at 11 Mile & Little Mack).
Also, believe it or not... Aldi's has some very delicious pies and cakes at reasonable prices. Their Deutsche Küche [[German Kitchen) frozen cakes [[including apple strudle) and Belmont frozen pies are very delicious. I took an Aldi's Belmont Key Lime Pie to a New Year's party last year and folks were raving about it... it was only $4.99.
And with frozen... you can buy it ahead of time, and thaw [[and if necessary bake) it beforehand.... a still warm pie gives more of a homemade feel to it...

If you change your mind and decide to get a sweet potato pie, then you can not go wrong with http://www.sweetpotatosensations.com/sps.html
It's been awhile since I've been there, but I remember that they get very busy with orders this time of year, so like their website says you may want to call ahead.

ESPECIALLY if you put it in a pyrex dish, stick toothpicks in the top, and cover it with Saran Wrap. Not that I would do something like that........

Delight Bakery in Grosse Pointe Woods.

And across the street from Delight Josef's. Josef's has been around the longest and will have the worst parking problems this week.

Not in Detroit.....but if they are still producing, visit Achatz's.
I hear Grand Traverse Pie Company sells the best pies.
Of course, the nearest one I know of is in Troy.
Chene Modern on Warren near Southfield makes a good pie, and its not super expensive either.
Yes, I have to second Achatz Pies! All made by hand and fresh baked, and from natural ingredients.
Bakers Square use to be my favorite place for pies, but unfortunately they've went out of business in Michigan.
