Ray I moved to NM from Detroit 7 months ago. I am so in awe of this place. Here is some of what you were describing.Jim, when I drive to Detroit from my home in Las Vegas, I always take I-40 [[I hate that drive through eastern Colorado and Nebraska. Yuk.) and just love hitting the NM border. Eastern Arizona [[painted desert area) is nothing but flat, boring countryside for 200 miles, once you leave Flag. But NM is a pure delight for all....what, 360?....miles across 'er. Beautiful cliffs, buttes, and mesas all the way to the Texas panhandle. Well, then it gets boring again until Missouri. If I had to leave NV, NM would be my #2 choice for living.
Looks like they could use a few party stores...... Take a drive from Alberquerque to Santa Fe down the Turquoise Highway, some time in early April, when the sage is fresh. Awesome smell. Visit one of the Native American reservations. Quite the learning experience.
The damage from Hurricane Sandy is so extreme... hard to believe! Before and after photos further reveal the devastation:

Great shots, MidTownMs! It's a different world, isn't it? Although I like my Nevada desert as well. BTW, pushing 80 today again and I haven't seen a cloud all month.
Ray, that's one thing I envy, growing tomatoes and peppers year 'round!
Stromberg2
