The FD was there but not doing anything. Maybe they couldn't find a working hydrant.

Speaking of fire. Did anyone see what that massive fire was near Grand River and Mack just now? It blew smoke all the way down to GCP. Thick Black Smoke.

From today's Free Press: A month after owner said he'd tear down Packard Plant, zero progress madeDetroit Fire Department spokesman Chief Kwaku Atara said the department has a policy of not responding to fires at the plant.
"We're not allowed to go into the building because it's considered a dangerous structure," Atara said....
A city official said no one has applied for permits to demolish the building....
A key step before demolition is removing asbestos in the plant, but the state Department of Environmental Quality said no one has submitted a plan for asbestos removal.
