I think the same guy that's trying to sell that house for that much tried to unload the Kamper mansion for 650k. I'm not sure how successful that was. Anyone?
The Kamper house with its silk ceilings is rather remarkable.
Without thinking about it... my favorite is the Frank Hecker House aka... the Hecker-Smiley Mansion on Woodward and E. Ferry Ave.
Although the famous Charles Lang Freer house next door to it looks very impressive from the outside... the inside doesn't quite live up to what one would expect... but that's because the Freer House has spent nearly a century without the fabulous art collection inside... that Freer left to the Smithsonian. Freer probably didn't want the architecture of the house to overpower his art... so it isn't nearly as fancy as the Hecker house.
Actually, the link provided gives you the Google Street View from one of the side streets bordering that property, Lowell Drive. Thought that might be good for a chuckle. What is your favorite luxury homes in Detroit?

The house next door is Mitt Romney' s house, I believe. There was a discuss here about that home being demolished:

What a beautiful area... and then you drive for five minutes and get to see Robinwood Street. Detroit is certainly a city of amazing contrasts. ;-[[
