COVID-19 concerns force shutdowns of Transit Windsor, playgrounds

In Chicago, our transit will run as usual. People need to get to groceries, doctors, and still work.

Chicago is asking for trouble by not shutting down public transit for anyone other than healthcare workers.

He said that the US is following the Italian curve like other countries and the US is 2 weeks behind Italy and worse prepared because the US has only 2.8 beds per 1000 while Italy has 12-13 beds per thousand and Italy is turning anyone 80 or over away because they don't have enough beds. Italy's death rate is over 10%. He said don't believe the data coming from China such as most cases are 80 year old smokers.

He also said that before people show symptoms after catching it, they will transmit it to 2.5 victims.

He said it's not an old person's disease. People are getting younger and younger. If you're morbidly obese, you have a high risk for complications. 40% of Americans under 40 are morbidly obsese. 70% of fatalities from COVID-19 are morbidly obsese. People who are morbidly obsese do not have the lung reserves to handle COVID-19 and will die from pneumonia.

The US is at a death rate of 2% and it's going to increase like Italy because the US will not be able to handle the inflow of patients. He has a colleague in NYC who has 4 people hooked up to ventillators and they are in their 30s and the only risk factor they have is that they have a BMI of 30, ie. 40 lbs+ overweight. He said we're not going to peak until mid-May. 80% will have mild symptoms and the other 20% will have complications.

The only way we can keep it manageable is through self-isolation and social distancing. Italy already has a lockdown and the US is still letting everyone on public transportation. This will be a disaster.
