Stimulus For Green Economy Needed

When president Obama announced his stimulus package a few months ago, he made it clear that he wanted to build a new, more environmentally friendly infrastructure in the United States. And to hold him to that pledge, Mayor John Fetterman is lobbying the government to send some of that money to Braddock, Pennsylvania, which used to be one of the most productive steel manufacturers in the country. Mayor Fetterman believes that with a little help, he can put more people to work creating wind turbines and other steel products to help move our country towards a better future. Robert F. "Is Sotomayor Smart Enough?" Attack Ad

As we all have heard, President Obama has nominated federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court. And, as expected, the right wing were ready to pounce.

One of their lines of attack, as shown by this just released ad, is that Sotomayor isn't very smart despite her extremely impressive pedigree. Take a look.

Alright, that's not a real ad, but it might as well should be. And the line of attack, which began in Jeffery Rosen's mostly anonymously sourced column, is ludicrous.

She was valedictorian of her high school. She graduated summa cum laude and Phi Betta Cappa from Princeton. She then studied law at Yale, where she was the editor of the Yale Law Journal.

Maybe the problem is that most right wingers don't know what summa cum laude means. Probably not, though. Most likely, they're just desperately making stuff up to try to stop an extremely qualified nominee.

Well, one could argue Roberts was an activist when you read some of his feelings before he was nominated.

The right likes to throw out the term activist so much, they forget that most future jurists has opinions on matters before they take a seat on the bench.
