Default Papantonio: How Republicans Packed Our Courts

While all the putrid Republican conduct was playing itself out during the Bush years, the Democrats and most Americans appeared to be virtually unaware of how the Grand Ol' Party was doing its most serious damage. The GOP and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce knew where they could do the most harm to democracy and, at the same time, improve the balance sheets for their corporate pals.

They could accomplish both of those goals in the Court system -- the civil justice system where judges are often the last line in the sand when it comes to protecting Americans from the type of reckless criminal conduct that the Bush Republicans carried out for 8 dark years. While Americans were distracted trying to figure out where the Hell the WMDs were, the Republicans were packing the federal trial courts and appellate courts from the bottom up. Not with talented experienced jurists, but with political hacks who had proven their commitment to right wing ideology completely enough that they were rewarded with a black robe and a federal courtroom gavel.

Default Papantonio: Public Says Romney Only Cares for the Wealthy

One of the biggest questions that voters will have to ask themselves this coming November is "who will take [care] of my interests better." The latest polls tell us that voters have already asked themselves that question and the answer for most of the 99% is Obama. But for those in the top 1%, they overwhelmingly support Republicans like Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. Mike Papantonio talks about how voters' perceptions of who is the friendliest to Wall Street will play out this year with John Sides, political science professor and contributor to The American Prospect.

Default Papantonio: What's Romney Hiding In His Tax Returns?

Mike Papantonio appears on MSNBC's The Ed Show to discuss Romney's continued refusals to release his tax info.

  6. #1381

Default Papantonio: The New Right Wing Confederacy

About the only consistent theme we've seen come from the pathetic crop of Republican presidential wanna-be's is their eagerness to appeal to the most bigoted and racist members of their Republican Tea Party base. By attacking Muslims, African Americans, and basically anyone that isn't a white Christian, GOP candidates like Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry are helping to further divide America with their hate. Mike Papantonio talks about how these candidates are creating a new confederacy with Theo Anderson, a contributor to In These Times magazine.

  8. #1383

Default Papantonio: How Will The Occupy Movement Evolve?

When the Occupy Wall Street protesters first went down to Wall Street, they could have never imagined how far their message would spread. Since that first day last fall, the movement has spread across the globe, with Occupy groups showing up in major cities all over the world. The movement has also evolved to include Occupying foreclosed homes, occupying Washington, D.C., and occupying the ideals and vision of people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Everyday, the movement grows larger and more powerful, and Mike Papantonio spoke with author and Truth-out.org contributor Maria Armoudian recently about how the movement will continue to evolve in the coming months.

Default RFK, Jr.: Oil Industry Trying to Silence “Gasland” Director

    Total duration 31 minutes:
The new documentary film Gasland has been nominated for an Academy Award, and the oil and gas industries are working around the clock to prevent the film from winning an award. They want to keep the film out of the public eye because it exposes their dirtiest and most deceitful traits to the American public. But all of their lobbying and all of their money won’t keep filmmaker Josh Fox silent, and he joined Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. recently to discuss his Oscar-nominated film.

Default Papantonio: How The Right Wing Assault on Unions Backfired

When a cabal of right wing governors took power in 2010, they had a list of goals that they wanted to accomplish to make sure that they stayed in power as long as possible. On the very top of that list of goals was to demonize and then systematically destroy America's unions and the entire organized labor movement. By doing that, they believed that they would effectively kill one of the largest Democratic fundraisers in the country. But as we've seen in places like Wisconsin and Ohio, the attacks on unions are backfiring, and have created a massive backlash. But that hasn't stopped the right wing attacks on organized labor, and Mike Papantonio spoke with Nation correspondent John Nichols recently to get some insight into the GOP war on unions.

Default Papantonio: Republicans Hope Culture Wars Will Energize Base

The contraception issue has taken center stage in the news this week with Republicans accusing the president of imposing new rules that will violate religious beliefs. Nothing could be further from the truth but that hasn't stopped Republicans from rallying their base to fight against contraceptives. As Mike Papantonio and Ed Schultz discuss, this may be the only way to energize the Republicans since they can't seem to agree on anything these days.

  16. #1391

Default Papantonio: White Supremacists Own the New GOP

Log Cabin Republicans weren't welcome at this year's CPAC convention, but White Nationalists were not only welcomed with open arms, but they were given a prime speaking slot. Mike Papantonio appears on MSNBC's The Ed Show to talk about how racism has completely taken over the GOP.

  17. #1392

Default Papantonio: GOP Has Buyer's Remorse With Presidential Candidates

Mike Papantonio and Ed Schultz discuss the GOP's dissatisfaction with their current crop of presidential candidates -- candidates that have already been bought and paid for so there's no turning back.

  18. #1393

    Default Papantonio: Over-Medicated In America

There is an epidemic in American society today -- but it isn't an illness that's grasping us, it's treatments for made up diseases that are affecting our culture. Doctors across the country are quick to diagnose a child as having ADD just because they are a little too much for parents to handle -- even if those children are under 2 years old. As a result, we're seeing children dying from bad drugs at the age of 4. Mike Papantonio talks about our over-medicating society with psychologist and author Bruce Levine.

  19. #1394

Default Papantonio: Turning America Into "Pottersville"

It's becoming harder and harder for the GOP to hide their hatred of anyone who isn't a member of the 1% wealthy elite in America. They've made it clear that not only do they not want the 1% to pay any taxes, but that the middle and lower classes should have to pay more taxes to make up the difference. They are indifferent to home foreclosures, unions, and American workers -- and they aren't even pretending to hide their indifference anymore. Mike Papantonio talks about the GOP's ultimate goal for America with award winning investigative journalist and author Robert Parry.

  24. #1399

Default Papantonio: Is FOX Destroying The GOP?

Roger Ailes has made it perfectly clear that his goal with the FOX News network is to get Republicans elected. The network has no problem pushing bogus conspiracies about Obama's birth certificate, death panels, and even about FEMA setting up internment camps for Republicans. And it's that kind of crazy talk that has finally made the network look more like a carnival sideshow among their viewers rather than a legitimate news outlet. Mike Papantonio talks about how FOX's brand of crazy is finally starting to do serious damage to the Republican Party with Eric Boehlert, a senior fellow at Media Matters.

  25. #1400

Default Papantonio: Santorum The Embodiment of Anti-Intellectualism

Mike Papantonio talks with Ed Schultz about Rick Santorum's anti-intellectualism, which seems to be running rampant through the GOP.
