More Stephens - Albert L. Stephens house by George Mason, 1914. Edsel and Eleanor Ford moved here I believe after the "Honeymoon House" in indian Village. Leonard B. Willeke did some design work here in the 20's. The house is gone [[against the rules, sorry!) but boathouse still exists, on the UAW property.

If it was a Mason as well then there would be the Stephens, Finck and Buhl all by Mason at almost the same corner of Jefferson.

I guess the Finck should be on this list too. And hmm its for sale.

    1725 Burns built in 1915
    2253 Burns built in 1915
and one I just found a little further to the east, its not in the rules but I like the home.

    All Mason? Great!

One other that was a little west and breaking the rules - Samuel T. Douglas residence by Mason and Rice at 114 Dubois [[corner of Larned) on the East side, Detroit built 1891 - during their Mettawas gambrel roof period. Love the voluminous gambrel roof in this. Reminds me of Seyburn St. Have to wonder what this neighbourhood was like.

Will sign off tonight with 961 Burns - that south facing porch now faces onto a large vacant lot. Seems like an ideal pool location...

Whats the current state of the house at 1475 Burns? SouthOfBloor's pics show it as pretty run down while p69rrh51's pic of it shows it in much better condition.

1475 Burns went up for sale a couple of years ago, didn't find a buyer and has sat empty. Its pretty rough inside as a result - not unsalvageable but bad in comparison to the level of repair in Indian Village. I'm not sure whether it has been bought since and repaired - hopefully. My pics were from Fall of 2009 - p69's might be more recent.

The pic of 1475 was taken last summer. I have not been by there in awhile but the last time I went by the home was in the condition described above.

To start the morning off the Chittenden & Kotting commissions in Indian Village.

P69 these lists are fantastic - keep them coming! I had heard though that 776 Seminole might be by Charles A. Platt along with "The moorings" in GP? Apparently there is a duplicate of 776 in New England somewhere that the owner has looked at in restoring missing details.

Such a wealth of information! Thanks to the historians here. I can ever stress enough how much those of us who are not in the area appreciate pics of any type.

I love the green trim on the house at 776 Seminole - plus the rainbow flag.

Not being in the area any longer, I don't have a house I consider my favorite. I am not really in a position to move back, but I do think about where I would live if I did. It's a moving target mostly between Sherwood Forest and the University District for the closeness to the northern burbs, and Indian Village and West Village for closeness to downtown and the river and because I used to live in WV. With thoughts of B-E thrown in for the heck of it.

I admit to spending an inordinate amount of time looking on real estate sites to see what's for sale in those areas as well as Rosedale and EEV. I especially like looking at houses in need of "some TLC" and thinking "what if..."

Off topic, but does anyone else share one of my pet peeves: it seems that the agents in Detroit don't know any style other than "colonial". I'll see an ad for a nice [[or not-so-nice) brick and timber tudor in the University District and almost invariably its called a "colonial". There should be a short course on architectural styles for real estate agents to take!

I don't know anything about the house; but I do know something interesting about a former resident of the house.

For many years it was the home of Mr. Cunningham [[the father of Fr. Cunningham of Focus Hope). At 86 years of age he packed up all his belongings from the Tudor house and moved kitty-corner across the street to this stone house where he continued to reside for a number of years.

Nothing, just GP, B'ham, BH, Sherwood Forest and Palrmer Woods is all I have found so far but there must be more in the Oakland Co. area.

I'd like to have the house I lived in for 40 years on Wayburn. Nothing special, but I'd love to pick it up and move it here to our acreage in Minnesota. Current owner tells me it is in rough shape now, and the neighborhood is full of gangs and very dangerous. So sad. I loved that house.
