OK... let me see now the 5 mansions remaining on Woodward would be....
    1) David Whitney Jr. House.
    2) Samuel L. Smith House [[next to former Maccabees Bldg.).
    http://detroit1701.org/Samuel L. Smith Home.html
    3) The Lemuel Bowen House.
    4) The Frank Hecker House.
    5) The George L. Beecher House....

...Except unless there was SIGNIFICANT post-completion modification [[full third story and half fourth story added, entirely new limesone facade built on)... that's not the Lemuel Bowen house. This is the second time I've seen this Brickbuilder image posted as the Lemuel Bowen house, am I missing something?

I certainly got that one wrong - you're absolutely correct.

Any way to know what house that actually is, if it's still standing? It almost looks like the PW Fisher house that burned down, except in that photo it's obviously surrounded closely by other houses/buildings on all sides, not to mention the lack of expansive tree'd front yard...

I highly prefer pre-Victorian architecture, but as you all know there are scant few of those creatures left in Detroit.

I would have to go to Judge Sibley's House by default.

Default 494 Lakewood in the Jeff/Chalmers neighborhood

This fieldstone house was built in 1914 in the Arts and Crafts style, with beautiful woodwork and builts-ins the home is chock full of character and charm. I did a walk thru manys years ago when it was vacant and it looks like someone put alot of TLC and $$ into the place since then. When I see that house I see nearly a hundred years of raising families and living in Detroit. I grew up a few blocks from here and even as a child was amazed at the rich craftmanship of the houses in my neighborhood.

19373 Renfrew is pretty cool looking. tIt is too bad that it's in such bad condition and would take many thousands to retore.

@Patrick...Is the house you're referring to on the Blvd, the little English cottage btwn 129 and the hotel? If so, back in the 1990's it was owned by John Haggerty [[art professor at Wayne State) and his wife. They moved out in the late 1990's and it is still lived in by one of the people connected to the motel I believe. It's a beautiful little house and had some neat English style gardens in the back.

Here is some information about the Henry and Clara Ford home near Boston-Edison. Henry Ford was, arguably, at his peak point of creativity when he lived here.

As a place to live in Detroit, I find the Castle residence of Marvin Stanton in the Barry
    Subdivision interesting.

I'd want to have the house in which I grew up. Lots of great memories there! Nothing fancy but my dad built the garage with his own hands. My name is in the cement with my handprint. Our pool [[inground) and slide are still there. I believe the sandbox my dad made for us is still there, behind the garage. The apple tree that we used to climb is still in the backyard [[with my initials carved in it). It's located on Beaverland at Tireman. Not the best area but it's home.

I found this cute little abode on a pleasant sidestreet in Detroit. I tried talking the owner into selling it for the bricks, he wasnt interested. There seems to be a buzz about rehabbing old buildings, maybe even using them as is, in Detroit he said. I told him I might have a lot downtown where I could move it to. Still not interested. OK I said, a capital fund in Chicago are looking for a coup to offset the decline in interest for skyscraping in the US vis-à-vis the emerging countries, they would consider a hefty sum for your house. They want to vacuum the noise around this indian billionaire who built himself a 27 story house for a billion. Still, Mr Penobscot the owner said no. He told me the house had been in the family since it was built and he would only consider parting with it if...
