A nice one from the Onion AV club with Kelly Hogan and Mac McCaughan:

German group Faun
1) Wind und Geige
2) Iyansa [[at 5:40) This sounds sort of Turkish or North African but I can't find out much about it. One claim is that this is Swahili.

everybody wants Nez' Gretsch 12 string
Damn Oladub, just when I think I've got you figured out, you throw a music video curveball into the mix.
Time for another You Tube Battle of Bands. [[Does anyone like these besides me?)
Today's hit- "To Love Somebody".
Bee Gees original version:

Flying Burrito Brothers version. I've liked this one for a long time:

Here's one I found a few years ago. Dara Puspita. [[Indonesian garage rock)

ok, I'll play
Hmm, I'd put that version below the ones I posted but above the Tom Jones and Michael Bolton versions.ok, I'll play
Fabulous song, first heard when Tim Buckley performed it clean and simple on the last episode of the Monkees. Still my favorite version, it wouldn't be released until a TB anthology decades later:

the first record release, 1969, by Pat Boone:

TB reworked the lyrics [[trading the cryptic "i am puzzled as the oyster" for "i am puzzled as a new-born child) and finally released it in 1970 on Starsailor. It has its merits, but I think it loses something:

This Mortal Coil renewed interest in the song in 1983 with what is probably the best-known version:

ex-RHCP guitarist John Frusciante released his version in 2009:

In 2010, it was Brian Ferry's turn:

Tim wins that one, no contest. I forgot he was on the Monkees.
I liked this comment on the Pat Boone one:
Bloody hell. That is 16 different types of shit.
Chas Chandler, along with Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones, John Entwhistle and Jack Cassidy - 5 all-time best rock bass players
Timely today as in 1959. Listening, I am reminded, we did recover in the interim period, before backsliding into trouble again:

Here's something you don't hear everyday- Neko Case sings Iron Maiden. I didn't know she could hit notes that high.

It's Joe Strummer's birthday, what else would I be listening to?
Nothing right now but whatever happen to Tony Hoyt ? He was a DJ for WJZZ on midnites. Please give me some insight.

Kelly Hogan sings "Tis Autumn".
Those are great players for sure. But I like Chris Squire from Yes. He plays the Rickenbacker bass like a lead instrument. The bass lines really stand out in the Yes tunes for me.
I'm a huge Neko Case fan and didn't that that either lol
These guys have decided to take an indefinate break from music
"The road to love is littered
By the bones of other ones
Who by the magic of the moment
Were mysteriously undone
You try to understand it
But you never seem to find
Any kind of freedom, coming clean
Is just another state of mind "
who else even approaches the lyric brilliance of this man?
<span style="color: rgb[[51, 51, 51); font-family: arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17px;">
again...
"At best it is said we've been locked deep inside
Of an old sea man's chest full of charts
Where maps are contained and what's left of his brains
When his crew threw his balls to the sharks"
<span style="color: rgb[[0, 0, 0); font-family: DroidSansRegular, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.765625px;">
Digging thru my rock memories on youtube and found a Rush classic: Freewill
"The stars aren't aligned, Or the gods are malign… Blame is better to give than receive." ...etc.
Some strong lyrics on this one...
