I continue to keep my radio dial stuck on WDET, except for the wee hours in the morning...then I have my own personal NightFly. Uncle Buck from WCSX is an old high school friend, and he stretches his playlist occasionally, upon request.

I read up on Little Feat when I made that post above, because I thought Time Loves a Hero was one of their early albums. I had NO idea the trajectory of that band. They were spawned from the brash attitude and harsh rule-keeping of Frank Zappa...and after founder Lowell George's death, for over a decade had Shaun Murphy [[of Seger's Silver Bullet) as lead singer!

Another Lauren Canyon phenomenon...that wouldn't fit into any of the little categoric boxes the music industry believes we all listen within. Have you read the curious Inside the LC expose yet?! That'll keep you from sleep for a while.

    Cheers!

I think I've heard more Little Feat covers than originals. Here's one I like. The Golden Palominos.

I tried to pull an all-nighter to finish some heavy writing on deadline...caught three hours' sleep, and now have to beat my head on the wall. Caffeine. Won't. Work.

It'll be Art of Dying for a while this morning. Met those dudes last time they were in town, so now I have some heavy metal in the music rotation!

Watched the 25th anniversery of the Rock Hall of Fame, which was a 2 night concert in Madison Square Garden sometime last year. Last night was the opening night.
Highlites for me were Little Anthony and the Imperials
Simon & Garfunckle reunion [[3 songs)
Aretha was really good as well until her last song which was a duet with Annie Lennox. That really ruined it for me.
And a bunch of songs with Stevie Wonder

The Detroit area needs an oldies station. We had one but I don't know what happened to it. They changed formats a while ago and now it's mostly 80's/90's music. When I say oldies, I don't mean oldies for 30 year olds. I'm talking about a station that plays 50's and 60's maybe even older occassionally. Come on, give us mature people some great music to listen to.

104.3 is as close as you'll come. They slowly converted from 50s through early 70s music to 60s through 80s over the last two or three years. If you ask me, it's a very strange mix that they play. Don't care for most of the more 'recent' stuff they play now. I'm sure they wouldn't have changed if their ratings were doing well. The thing that bugs me the most with WOMC and WCSX is that they just play the same songs over and over and over and.... Come on, you can't play a few more of those 'deep cuts'??

Transferring from the Slow drivers thread:
To paraphrase some great learned scholar...or something -- jazz sucks.
It's not all bad. I don't mind some of it. [[But spare me the endless horn solos.) I like this lady:

Hank Jones, pianist [[from Pontiac by way of Vicksburg, Mississippi) who died, at age 91, in 2010.
He kept playing, appearing, and recording right up until the end, too.
So good, so good. You really don't even need to like jazz to enjoy this here. It's not all that jazzified. It's nothing more than a really great musician playing the piano accompanied by a really great bass player [[Charlie Haden.)
    This is The Shit.
