    This singer songwriter and composer from southern France was one of the very greatest at conjugating text and music. His popular music was based in the jazz idiom and increasingly by african music. He sadly died of cancer several years ago. This is one of his classics and if you know french, the poetry here goes to the heart rather than the brain real fast;

    Another one by the same guy is called «Un été»; "One Summer". It's about him meeting a little spanish girl from the neighborhood at fourteen, and is a tragic- comic description of fumbling and fear. He runs away from her beauty and the music is totally magical and melancholy, no comic accents at all, very subtly put together.

    REVELATION

    No more my heart shall sob or grieve.
    My days and nights dissolve in God's own Light.
    Above the toil of life my soul
    Is a Bird of Fire winging the Infinite.

    I have known the One and His secret Play;
    And passed beyond the sea of Ignorance-Dream,
    In tune with Him, I sport and sing,
    I own the golden Eye of the Supreme.

    Drunk deep of Immortality,
    I am the root and boughs of a teeming vast.
    My form I have known, and realised,
    The Supreme and I are one-all we outlast.

    - Sri Chinmoy

    A bit of a respite from 'smooth' jazz I'm - listening to - rediscovering Freddie Hubbard, specifically his gem "Red Clay":

    Does anyone here actually go the Hoedown? I just found out it's this weekend. I'm a fan of crusty old country but I don't get these current artists. Here's a couple of oldies by Jimmy Dickens and Anita Carter:

    current country music, with a few exceptions, is virtually indistinguishable from pop music in terms of arrangements, production, etc. those that ARE almost sound like parodies of old-style country. I saw Little Jimmy Dickens at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum when I was 10, with Stonewall Jackson, Roy Acuff and a couple of others

    The Performance of Russian guitarist Estas Tonne at the Buskers Festival Stadtspektakel in Landshut in September 2011 in the Old Town with "The Song of the Golden Dragon."
    That guitar must be structurally reinforced. If you close your eyes, it sounds like multiple guitarists.

    I'm hoping to make this show at the Ark. I saw Nick Lowe and Rockpile at the Royal Oak Music Theater eons ago with Elvis Costello and the Attractions and Mink DeVille.

    The ad that played was for Ted Nugent. Really???? can't imagine much cross over for the two.
