Hey, the opening scene was filmed at the corner of my street in Hamtown!!! I love how the former Shopper's World was prominently in the background.

New Palace Bakery was shown, as was the jewelry store where me and The Mrs. bought our wedding rings.

I hope this show lasts at least as long as NYPDBlue did.

Yes it was also known as the Zoo Bar but by that time, I stopped going to it.

No McKinley, there is a Mckinley elementary though IIRC. Was that not Detroit Central?

I see that they filmed capturing dude's brother on the Central football field. I noticed Sacred Heart in the background.

I like how "Big Al" from Dick Purtan was part of the cast.

I, being of Polish heritage, found a few things slightly offensive, in regards to the Polish character's portrayal, but its to be expected since Pols are most always portrayed in an unflattering light in this otherwise P.C. world.

For the most part, I am glad to play host to the shows cast.

P.S. Isn't McKinley High supposed to represent Mackenzie High School?

Yes, did you know notice how they had the guy he asked look at him with a puzzled look? I remember that same look when I lived in Cali and asked what kind of "pop" did they have.

It definitely seemed to be better than the first episode but I don't know if it was compelling enough of a story line to snag me just yet. I'll still watch a few more episodes, but sometimes I wonder if I watch the show to go "Oooo, I know that building" and forget about the plot a little bit. I wonder what the national numbers for this show are. Is it going to linger, get renewed or circle the drain with like so many other cop shows?

The show was a lot better tonight! It warmed this old cynic's heart to see Detroit and Hamtramck on TeWe.

Sorry if the show offended the Polish. I grew up with many Polish, best friend in school is of Polish heritage. But we do have Polish here and it was good they got some representation.

One minor thing I noticed - they reported the Polish groom's body found by a 'fishing boat' on it's way in. Not fishermen, but a 'fishing boat' as if we have commercial trawlers out and about in the area.

I wasn't impressed with last weeks show, but thought yesterdays show was a lot better.

At the begining of yesterdays show the camera movement was driving me nuts and making me somewhat dizzy. Maybe I just got use to it because it wasn't bothering me all that much halfway through. I don't ever think I'll be a fan, I wish they'd cut back on that a bit.

That hour absolutely flew by. I was shocked when I looked at my clock and the show was ten minutes from concluding. I can't remember watching a one hour show that went by as fast as this one.

I work at the DMC. I'm glad my employer has been featured on a national TV show 2 weeks in a row. It seems that Michigan, Henry Ford, and even Beaumont seem to get most of the attention. There are in fact many people even in Detroit that have never heard of the DMC. Just the other day, one guy thought it was a casino when I mentioned that I work there.

Anyway, I don't think the Detroit Receiving Hospital scene was filmed there. The patient units there have a unique look. As do the patient rooms. What they showed just didn't look like any place on the inside of DRH, and I have been to a lot of its medical/surgical units. So I'm not sure where they filmed it.

Also Michael Imperioli's character is from New York and would not be expected to say "pop". In fact, I've been living in the Midwest for many years and I also say "soda".

The show was somewhat better last night than the premier show was.

I didn't like it when Fitch was in the commanders office with the assistant prosecutor and they wanted him to play the hero in the squad room shooting and he said "you people" and the commander took offense immediately and raised her eyebrows, looked at him, questioned him "you people???". He didn't mean anything racist in the statement but she took it that way right off the bat. Why do they have to inject that type of attitude into the script? Right away that turned me off on the series. I still say it will be a one season show.

Interestingly enough, I didn't even think about that comment racially. I know I take offense whenever anyone refers to another group as 'you people'.

^^^^My point is, Fitch didn't mean anything racial about his statement and the commander was way too sensitive about it. Sometimes people say things that are not meant to offend anyone...I have said "you people" to Comcast representatives on the telephone....meaning "I know how busy you people are"...I certainly don't mean it in any other way than it was intended.
There is too much emphasis put on innocent wording today that leads to a racial confrontation...some people want it that way, others are purely innocent.
The Polish population in the City of Detroit should be outraged at how they made fun of them in last nights episode....talking about Kielbasa and mispronouncing their ethnic names. If the word "watermelon" was mentioned when referring to a specific group of people, I'm sure you'd have a lot of upset and angry people.
Only an observation on my part.

You mean the line about a kielbasa convention, then stumbling over all the names.
    Thats normal on Polish names.

I liked the part when they wanted a description on Stan's character and the one guy called him a dupa!
    Should have said dupa yach!
    Dupa = butt or ass
    dupa yach = asshole
not sure on the spelling of yach???

It is called Kingdom now and is packed on the weekends. It is basically a dance / hip/hop club that draws a mostly black crowd. Probably a good time based on some of the girls I've seen waiting in line to get in.

That said, I thought last night's show was substantially better. If the next episode is even more improved than this weeks', I think I'll be hooked and hopefully a lot of other people will too. I think it really makes Detroit look cool.

LOL, those lines. Those were the days. When it was Legend's, they were famous for having everyone stand out in line, in the cold to give the appearance that it was the place to be. In many ways it was but by the late 90's, the club became low class.

I thought that was unnecessary as well, but I'm no scriptwriter. We've had a few comments on this board, though, about that issue maybe seeming to be a little more poignant in Detroit than in other cities. Rightfully or not, that perception exists, and my guess is that they were trying to be authentic about that. Same thing as that line from the pilot about stopping them here so they don't have to be stopped in Ferndale. I'm not old enough to really know, but they could have represented native-vs-non-native tensions in some cheesy way on Magnum PI. My guess is they want to tackle some of this stuff head-on, and right now, they're just foreshadowing with bad lines like they do on a lot of good shows' early episodes.

And I'm sure they will...just as soon as they get done changing that darn light bulb.

    Oh come on...it's a funny.

That's the first thing I said to myself, look at how nice this city looks.

If "soda" or "beverages" are going to be integral to every interrogation scene I see a great product placement opportunity for a pop manufacturer. To keep it real, perhaps they should use Faygo or Towne Club. Perhaps a vending machine in the station?

A "soda" or "beverage" has been in each of the 2 first episode's interrogation scenes. I've never had it have this affect on me, but it seems to act like a truth serum every time it's used.

I guess thing to remember is it isnt written FOR detroiters.... WGPR interested on doing a authentic version? LOL. Too many regional terms and people may read it as a version of "LOST" too, as they wouldnt get what was said. NY and L.A. may have a better ability to have people get the regional terms as people actually visit those cities.

I just dont think the show is that interesting. I did find it funny a body in the river was found , traced to a location, family tracked down and notified b4 they missed the guy on his wedding. WOW...... I understand its on "TV time" far as story progression, just funny.
