Default Detroit New Stamping plant in Em's 8-Mile movie

Can anyone tell me the real name and location of the 'Detroit New Stamping' plant that Eminen worked at in his 8-Mile movie? Is it still functioning and what is its day-to-day role outside movieland?

New Center Stamping generously opened its plant to a tour by the Society for Industrial Archeology a few years ago, and I got to see it inside and out. It's a former General Motors plant that was operated by GM until the early 1980's [[1982?). Then it was sold to the new owners, who produce short runs of "crash parts," the replacement sheet metal used to repair damaged cars. After production of a car ceases, automakers deliver their body dies to New Center who produce the parts as needed, taking care to adhere to the original dimensional standards. The firm tries to hire from the surrounding neighborhoods. They were amused by the attention they got from the "8 Mile" movie.

The plant is close by the Ford Piquette Ave. plant and the enormous Fisher Body plant, and the site of the [[burned) EMF-Studebaker plant. Don't miss the wooden streetlights on these streets when you visit.

Below is the parking lot across from the plant where Em did a rap song scene.

Looking north toward rail overpass under which Hastings and Milwaukee intersect. Parking lot in picture 2 is to the left.

Jimaz, your first one is the hastings st. ballroom/tangent gallery. Still operated and lived in. The second one it's the building that the arrow's pointing to.
