Default Hammerfest 2010: Who knew there were white supremacists in the city?

I was looking at the SPLC heat map from another thread [[http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/hate-map#s=MI) and was surprised to find the many of the hate groups are located right here in our fair city and that the majority of those are white supremacist and Neo-Nazi groups. For some strange reason 2010 is the year of national conferences taking place in Detroit [[see USSF2010). The Northern Hammerskins are having their national event here in Detroit. http://omgili.com/jmp/jHIAmI4hxg_TPF...7_xNBlgiSr5w--

I'm trying to find out exactly where it'll be. If it's like the Tea Party the venue will actually be in Chesterfield Township but they'll advertise that they came to Detroit.

See Downriver people, you could find a community in the city too!

You know, until I saw the link you posted, I had no idea who they even were, or that they were even coming to Detroit.

I'd be willing to bet white supremacists are behind the hate mail put into the mailboxes of black residents of East Detroit/ Eastpointe. Probably the arson fire there too.

One of the newspapers warned about them relocating here from Minnesota a few years ago because they supposedly saw "opportunity" here when Michigan was in its 'one state recession.'

If you need a eye-opener of the hate that exist in Metro Detroit, all you need is to check out the comments of the Detroit Free Press.

Michigan has been a radical right-wing militia hotbed for a long time. There are places in the northern LP where you don't go if you're not known.

What was the bunch the FBI raided not long ago around Adrian?

    Anybody remember Terry Nichols?

"...These three strands of the radical right - the hate groups, the nativist extremist groups, and the Patriot organizations - are the most volatile elements on the American political landscape. Taken together, their numbers increased by more than 40 percent, rising from 1,248 groups in 2008 to 1,753 last year..."

Well stated..... and they're no longer all wearing pointy hats [[that would be to easy to identify and address). They are diffused within the fabric of American culture and society.

I am just happy they are spending their dollars in Detroit and therefore welcome both.

I am with you Stylin. They have their right to spew their hate, [fortunately overwhelmingly large numbers of people reject them] but I wouldn't want them here for any amount of money they might spend. They often draw reaction and then require police protection. They can cost more than they spend. Their goal is to spur race wars and destroy our civil liberties in the process.

Your attempt to cut this down the middle has been noticed and it should be flamed. You really think these hate groups are spending money in Detroit?

    This is still Detroit right?

Where is Dr. Malik Zulu Shabazz? He is going to take his New Black Panther Party to Washington D.C. to take on Glenn Beck and the Tea party. Maybe he could visit Detroit to offset these Hammerskin guys.

Oh stop. The cleverness of that remark is kind of lost among all of the neo naziness of these "Hammerskinners." If somebody was on here bewailing Rush Limbaugh or the tea party organizing a gathering in Detroit, perhaps.

Wow. That would be...well, it would be quite the, uh...well, something to behold, I should imagine...perhaps from safe distances, ideally...with a tele-foto lens, if anything...well, anyway, we'd have some outsiders to blame the burnt down buildings on...fewer knuckleheads to boot, I would imagine...a lot of overtime to pay to city employees engaged in clean-up, however...a new dispirited t-shirt about Detroit, perhaps...maybe the city could license the TV rights...is there some hope in this idea for a budget-friendly demolition of the Packard plant?

Anybody visit that link? They actually billed their July 4th event in Orlando FL as "family friendly."

Here's an example from a local lawyer who represented the victim of such an incident. I don't think he'll mind my sharing. Of course, this isn't representative of a whole community but I think it qualifies as an example of what Meddle is talking about.

My client was from Macomb County and was hunting in Huron County. He and some friends went to a bar in Bad Axe. Bouncer who let them in said he could tell they were "citiots". Said there was a 90% chance they'd get into an altercation but never warned them. 3-4 more off duty bouncers inside from other bars. Client's friend was dragged outside for dancing with a woman, my client followed. He was sucker punched and his face was stomped and crushed. Thirty five screws and 11 plates now hold his face together. Police arrived, shook assailants hand and let him go. No charges were ever filed because they "couldn't tell who started the fight". Testimony by bartender - "citiot's are like niggers". Bar owner hired the assailants as their next bouncers after the assault.

Did the Dearborn Hammerskins move north? LMAO! Fuck'em all.

By the way, the racism in this region isn't one way. It is perpetrated by mostly ignorant, uneducated people. While those usually holding the purse strings [[or puppet strings) are those who have the most to gain financially [[Jesse Jackson, Richard Butler do you hear me?).

    1. I don't call Huron County the "northern LP".

    2. I have been in redneck, GI, and Navy bars all over the southeastern US [[and I grew up in Detroit). I have never been in a fight in a bar [[and i am now 71 years old).

    3. Best thing when you go into a bar is to sit at the bar and ask the bar tender for a recommendation on a beer. If you don't care for the first one which the bar tender likes or has on special, you ask for your own preference on the second beer and just say something like "the taste is a bit unusual for me". The bar tender feels respected and will bond with you.

    4. Bar tenders won't allow bouncers to interfere with "their" customers.

    5. Sounds like the guy went there in a "posse" and got in trouble.

Us downriver people already have our community in the city. It's called driving here for work and paying taxes for the "Privlidge" of doing so.

I remember reading something several years ago about the biggest pro-Nazi/white power record label in the United States being located in someone's basement in Oak Park.

Someone's basement in Oak Park. It is reassuring, if you think about it.

Almost everybody would say they don't want them or any other hate groups around, regardless of who they are, who they hate, etc. However, I hope this does not get the attention it doesn't deserve. 250 people are protesting and 50 members of the press are at some "event" attended by 22 people in the "group", 10 of which are children of the others. The attention does more for the groups than their "messages" ever could. I feel sorry for the children, but otherwise, I don't care to see them get the pub they're craving, and don't need to feel self-righteous for disagreeing with their message.

Lowell, I can say the same thing for the anti-war marches, socialist marches and any other marches that happen in the city. However, free speech is just that. No one has to like the message but as you have stated they have the right.

In Canada they are allowed to march as well as long as they don't spew hateful messages in the process or call for the destruction of any people. Our Charter of Rights and Freedoms maintains free speech to a point. When talk of violence against a person comes into it then that individuals rights are lost.

Does the same hold true for free speech in the USA? I am not familiar if it does or doesn't.
