Eastpointe police are investigating a Thursday fire at a house in the 15000 block of Sprenger Avenue where threatening letters with racial slurs were sent to residents this week.

Police Lt. Neil Childs said the fire was reported at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and that no one was injured and there was little damage in the mostly vacant house. He said police were trying to determine whether the fire was arson and if it was related to the letters sent Tuesday.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the FBI are working with Eastpointe police in the investigation of the letters, which had no return address. Most of the recipients have been African American, Eastpointe police Lt. Scott Bourgeois said.
