Your cynicism is recognized and is shared by many. However, one has to wonder were it really the pastors at the time that "iniated' the changes or was it mandated by the AOD? The reality is, given the current shortage of priests, "working up the hierarchy" becomes a moot point.

Gone are the "cathedral" setting plans we had as well as the older churches. Guess that is good - it is better to see someone's face vs. the back of their head. As for funds going to the parishes or dioceses, I know when the road our church is on here was widened about 10 ft the whole length of the land, that money paid by the state came to the church and not diocese. We did put it back into improvements on the church property and built a Habitat house, but it did come to us. Despite that, to go along with kellyroad and CFG, it is the people who make up the church. Pastors come and go, but the people live on. Would be interesting to see how many families at St. Jude have been there since the days we were in school there. Another project, CFG?
Laing: Just in time. CFG is looking for more projects ;-). You do pose an interesting question. How many families at St. Jude have been there since the days we were in school? Let me piggyback on to that question.
Are there any families or indivduals that have been in St. Jude since its begining in July of 1941?
If not, who has been there the longest [[congrously)?
    Along with the relic questions...
Who is the first baptized at SJ?
Who is the first registered parishioner of SJ?
Were the registrations handled at the Rectory on Kelly and Roscommon?
Who was Fr. Ording's first associate priest?

If anyone has any other trivia or questions of interest, this forum could certainly supplement our 70th anniversary celebrations.

Why do I have to do all the "heavy lifting?" ---as the drafted class historian, I will do my best to get all these questions answered and possibly add more interesting trivia to the mix!

The general consensus is: since the bell tower responsibilities have been put on hold the assignment of historian is well deserved. Besides, the cream does rise to the top. Thanks!

KR - you are a hoot! My guess is that I will be shinnying up the bell tower to make it presentable for the anniversary - after assembling an encyclopedia of St. Jude Lore, Trivia, and de-mythed [[sp?)urban legends!
    :-)

Hopefully if things work out, I'll be in town sometime in late August for a family re-union, and I'll make sure I schedule a Polonia and Tigers outing with my friends!

Someone asked recently about the record for long time parishoners. My mom and dad must have been close. We moved them out this past weekend, to an assisted living place out in Sterling Heights. They had been in that house since 1951, it would have been sixty years this summer.

Now, that's impressive. You don't hear about people staying in their houses for so long. tsom, I pray that they are in good health and will continue to live a good life. What was the address?

One of my neighbor's still lives in her house on Maddelein; she has been there for as long as I can remember and longer. So at least 55 yrs for her.

Thanks Laing. Sad to say they probably stayed there too long. Their mobility is not the greatest, so they rarely got out the house the past year or so. I think they will certainly be happier in their new digs. The address was 12308 Lansdowne.

Good Morning - Aunt Pauline is moving, too, JC - I know there are still parishioners on Saratoga between Rex and Redmond.

Glad they are happy. So, that was between Casino and Morang, right? Do you remember Tom Swaney who also lived on Lansdowne? He was in my class.

She's moving out, finally? In a way, that's too bad, but I was getting a little worried about her still being there at her age.

Yes, she's finally moving out - but staying as a parishioners - don't know when that move will be final. She'll still be making the donuts every first Sunday of the month! When we did a parish survey a couple of years ago, it's amazing how far reaching our family extends. 1/2 the Parishioners are from the neighborhood, SCS, Harper woods and Grosse Pointe - and the other 1/2 come from Warren, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, and surrounding burbs.

    Mmmmm, donuts!

Where is she moving to; assisted living or with one of her kids?

She and the donut ladies make the best donuts on the Eastside - I'll bet that donut maker was around when the nuns used it! it runs on a bike chain like conveyor belt and they've got it down to a science. You know, I'm not sure if she's moving in with Ron, or going to a condo or assisted living. She was just telling Bet that she was ready and gave in to her kids to move.

Well, it will make her life a lot easier, no matter if it's into a condo or with the kids; no more home upkeep and she'll be safer. Wish her well for me and tell her family 'HI' from mine.

You can count on it! This is fellowship Sunday, so the donut ladies will be starting the donuts early Sunday morning. even if we go to 4:00 Mass, we make a run to the parish center to pick up a dozen on Sunday!
