I do recall the record store across from Kresge's but can't remember the name. I also remember a small shop on the other end of the mall, across from the Krogers and the Orange Julius stand, that sold 45's. They would have the top 40 on the wall. That was were I used to get the weekely Keener top 40 list as well. Hmm, I think there was a hot pretzel place down there as well [[Hot Sam's?)

I completely forgot about the record shop in the Kroger building but do recall when Hot Sams opened. I remember getting those as a treat [[absolutely loaded with mustard) after "assisting" with grocery shopping at Kroger.

It was on the end of the mall closest to Kelly Road [[as opposed to kellyroad, lol). I guess it was near where the Target is now.

I couldn't tell you really. I seem to always remember it being there, my earliest memory of it must have been like '64 or so. I do remember it being taken out, and that whole wing being replaced by something else. Was that when the Penney's was added? What year was the mall enclosed, does anyone remember?

While we're on the subject of record stores, there were a couple of others in the hood I remember. One was next to the Civic theater, it was a music shop as well. I got my first Beatles record there [[a 45, "Do You Want To Know a Secret"/"Thank You Girl". I believe it was right after they were on the Sullivan show, and it may have been the only Beatles record in stock!). I also remember buying guitar strings there. The other one was on Kelly Road, a few blocks south of Notre Dame. I remember my brother would stop there on his way home from ND [[mid to late 60's) and pick up the Keener list. I think it was probably gone by the time I started ND in 72. Anyone remember the names of these places?

That's the one, it was on the north side of the Civic theater, on the corner if I remember right. I think Grinnell's was on the southern side of the theater.

The one next to the Civic Theater was Civic Music, I think. But I think there was a Grinnell Bros. piano store there, too.

JC: Let's take a trip down memory lane. The year is 1970. You're standing by the hippo. Eastland is still an outdoors shopping center. You are heading west [[toward Kelly road) and about to enter a building that contains several shops including the Kroger building. As you enter the building you'll find the Alexander and Horning butcher shop on your right, to your left is the AAA pet shop. Continue down the hall and you'll find a record shop and a travel store and many other small shops. You'll finally end up at the Kroger store on the very west end Eastland. If you go left [[toward the NDHS side of the parking lot) you'll notice Hot Sams at the very end. Across from Hot Sams is of course Kroger. There was a drive up delivery service available on the southside [[NDHS side) which at the time seemed so futuristic. Kroger would load your bags into a cart put them on a rollers and your bags would be ready when you drove up. Some one had mentioned before that the Kroger that was in the Calcaterra Funeral Home location was the one that moved into the Eastland location.
