Default BREAKING: Kilpatrick Gets 1.5 to 5 Years!

They put the handcuffs on him right then and there and his attorney tried to make some "motion" but the process did not stop... ugly, that it had to come to this. His battery of attorneys and other PR stiffs and back slappers baffoons get to go home. Perhaps his can finally see how serious his charges were. Nothing else convinced him.... I feel bad for his kids... I cannot help feeling that way as corny as it may sound.

Yeah, it was ugly and I am not KK supporter but so much of this could have been avoided at some many stops along the way including the blatant corruption in the first place. All the stupid piles of obvious LIES and BOLD-FACE flaunting of the law.... he must have thought he was invincible and those turd attorneys of his.... What idiots! Well they got paid! Oh, well even a good attorney cannot dig you out of a hole as deep as the one he dug for himself.

Oh what a tangled web we weave,
when first we practice to deceive.

Learned that in 1st grade. I guess Kwame skipped that day.

I like how Kilpatrick thanked Kevin Dietz from WDIV for getting booted from the big house to the BIG HOUSE. It was Dietz's story from Southlake that showed everyone that the ex-mayor was living it up yet crying broke.

I hope he brought some clean tighty whiteys and his toothbrush along this trip! Do they make prison jumpsuits with "Mayor" embriodered on the cuffs?

If you've think he'll be housed with the general population, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Has KK ever shown any remorse, other than for getting caught, during this process?

I'm glad he's going to prison. Let MDOC have to deal with him & his housing issues. I hope they pick him up quickly from the Wayne County Jail.

Had WDIV on at work and Kevin Deitz said that when Groner read the sentence he didn't look at Ayanna [[his sister), he looked [[actually, the word he used was GLARED) directly at Kevin and mouthed "THANK YOU". I'd be a little nervous if I were him. At least he was smart enough to get the comment on tape in the event something happens to him....oh to be in Detroit today...the weather is perfect and justice is finally prevailing.

    Jackson here we come.
Have to laugh at his attorneys crying the blues.
Blame everyone else but your own stupid client.
I wonder if Kwame will stiff those guys too.
Fat boy has a chance to slim down and straighten his mind out.

He did it to himself... Private or general as I stated before once you are charged you have to complete the requirements ala jail or probation/ restitution... he did make a good faith effort to pay, and would have done better to have paid up front in the begging then cried broke later. He may have gotten a a better deal to have paid for a large span of time then cried broke later. Instead he wanted to flaunt the law to pay nothing and tell BLATANT obvious lies...

    Default Kwame sentenced 5 years

It is very sad that such a talented young man would use his authority to rob and steal from the city and the people he was given charge over. The one thing that keeps rolling over and over in my mind is when he came back from Florida and was held up in his house. He would not come out, but he sent his little children out the door to school to face the mob. Now he is talking about what his children will experience. Poor lil things, I feel for them so much. He has truly wasted a great opportunity to do so much for the city and its people.

The title of this thread is inaccurate. He was sentenced to a maximum of 5 years. Even if he were to serve the max, he gets credit for the 120 days he served in 2008.

^ Oh trust. I'm not defending. I'm just pointing out the facts. For some reason, logic goes out the window and emotions kick in when KMK is the topic.

Yeah, that would be a sweet PR trick too, mis-stating the actual sentence.

Don't be silly. You know he isn't going to Jackson.

    Let me amend this.
He may go to Jackson for processing but he would serve his time in a minimum-security prison like Marquette

According to Channel 4 news, he will be sent to the Jackson Prison intake facility for about 30 days while they decide which minimum security state facility he will be sent to.

Actually, yes, he will go to Jackson initially. He will be at the reception center there for a couple of days before MDOC decides which facility to place him. This is standard. Anyone sentenced to prison goes there first to get classified. That classification, based on your charges and prior history, determines what facility you serve your time.

Why wouldn't he go to Jackson? I thought Dickerson was only for those sentenced to less than a year.

Because though he is a convicted felon, he is not a convicted murderer or rapist.

What a shameful thing to say. This, coming from a free speech, sixties kind of guy! Kilpatrick brought this on himself. He balked at paying the restitution, he made the restitution hearings into a circus. Of course the media is going to make the most of out of it.

Paula Tuttman's report from outside the courthouse was telling. She stated that Kilpatrick's uncle flipped her an obscene gesture as they arrived, and that another family member was circling the block in a luxury automobile, yelling obscenities at the news people, before picking up family members after the procedure. The ex mayor showed the same attitude immediately after the sentence was announced, offering a sarcastic "thank you" to another reporter behind him. The family seems to feel that it's all the new media's fault. They are so used to their entitlement status that they do not see that this was brought on by the ex mayor's actions and lies. They don't get it.

I hope he doesn't confuse the "reception center" with the Manoogian Mansion and start that whole urban legend party rumor thing again...
