Sherrard is now completely demolished. Breitmeyers days are limited.

Thanks for the photos. I went to both Breitmeyer and Sherrard from 1968 to 1976. That was still a decent neighborhood but it had started its decline. I'm sure that the riots of 1967 had a lot to do with the decline. I was only 3 or 4 but I can still remember soldiers, tanks, and fires all over our neighborhood. Breitmeyer's
playground used to be covered with gravel. You used to have to dig it out of your hands when you fell. The addition you see on the front of Sherrard was completed around 1970 or 1971. In the summer of 1972 or 1973 a good friend of mine named Curtis Walker was shot and killed on Breitmeyer's playground. Curtis was one of the nicest people I ever knew.
