I once drove a VW microbus across the rockies, and near the Continental Divide, had to use 1st gear...but made it...I can't imagine actually driving PeteWalkers truck 2 inches...

Sug and a couple of other people and I drove from Illinois to the Bay area in California in a Rambler with just 1st and 2nd gears. Took a while but I don't think anybody cared. I think we hooked up with Neil & Penny when we got out there. I think that was the trip when I met Chicken Charlie.

just a great pic, Whaler...Happy holidays... everytime I watch the "Storm Stories" on the Weather channel, I think of 'ya...
Whaler.....ditto Glmn on the pic. What's that hanging on the wall behind you guys? Looks awfully nautical to me.
Stoney, I just sent Whaler an email about that picture. With out a doubt it's the Black River in Port Huron, early AM on race day. The boat on the right at dock is the Woodpecker. She's a beautiful, all wood hull, cruiser/racer and mainstay in Port Huron for years. I haven't seen Woodpecker for years, but then I haven't been to race day for years either.
Howdy gang........Leon Russell played a gig near Detroit a week or so ago......says he ran into a guy who was at the GarWood when he played there .....Does any one have any idea who that might have been.......Leon does remember being at the GarWood and had a "Great Time"..........Just wondering who the mystery guy was............GDGT..........By the way Stnft he also was in Redondo a few weeks ago and played "Hennessy's"....I think that's what it's called......up stairs across from Tonys.....Where you guys played yrs ago........
Leon plays in Detroit pretty frequently. Soup Kitchen and Sully's in the old days. More recently at the Majestic and the Magic Bag.Howdy gang........Leon Russell played a gig near Detroit a week or so ago......says he ran into a guy who was at the GarWood when he played there .....Does any one have any idea who that might have been.......Leon does remember being at the GarWood and had a "Great Time"..........Just wondering who the mystery guy was............GDGT..........By the way Stnft he also was in Redondo a few weeks ago and played "Hennessy's"....I think that's what it's called......up stairs across from Tonys.....Where you guys played yrs ago........
Listen OG, stop bugging Whaler and Kim, fer chrissake. It's only one bottle of wine. I have a 1/2 bbl that's well aged, I'm sure you'll enjoy. I found it in my basement. It's been there, oh, about a year or two. Kinda like a custom crafted beer - aged to perfection. I'll save it for you for the next reunion.
Hey 1KD, I say, whenever in doubt, Chill and Mingle.
When in doubt, empty the magazine.
[quote=stnfrnt;101564]When in doubt, empty the magazine.[/quote I second that one.
Hey OG, The Camp Randall Hockey Classic in Madison on February 6. Meechigan v Wisconsin. Outdoors. Yeahhhhhh, baby!
1KD or any detroit FOGs. Next time Leon plays in town ask him to come to the next party.
Ya Gash, I think that I had mentioned before that I had run into Leon at Cripple Creek and that he remembered vividly the Garwood. Old guy , Charlie Chicken was that tall dude in Alameda that worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken and would bring us all the leftovers to eat.
You are correct CandyMan. I remember when we got kicked out of that apartment above the clothing store, escorted by half the Alameda police force. We hopped in your van with a few assorted 3 day old buckets of rubber like chicken. The police suggested that we should move across the bay but we went to Bolinas. Drank $1.99 gallons of Vino Fino from that little store and ate chicken. I remember the bottles of Vino Fino had a label with a red & white checkered tablecloth. They didn't make aspirin that was strong enough to make you feel better the next day.Ya Gash, I think that I had mentioned before that I had run into Leon at Cripple Creek and that he remembered vividly the Garwood. OG......that's why they made more wine; you don't need aspirin if ya' got more wine.
Oh, you guys. Keep the stories coming. Vintage 50's, 60's and 70's beatnik, hippie, counter-culture, road stories. Gotta love 'em. And we have a million stories to tell. You are correct CandyMan.
