Default Ok, when does the real forum begin?

I'd like to think that this all isn't going to go to waste. Maybe someday people will use this side of the board more instead of the old side, but as long as posts are being made over there, it doesn't seem like that will ever happen.

My guess is that Lowell is having trouble importing user accounts and passwords to the new database. He might have to create a back up copy of the current user database and change the fields and properties so it can be imported properly to the new database.

Or, maybe he's concluded that he can't import the old database at all and is waiting for the right time to switch over since people will have to create new accounts.

Whatever the case, I hope we can switch over soon. I like the new board and its added functionality. I understand though, it's not an easy task for a man with much on his plate.

could always flip the position of this board and the other but still provide a link to the other - more people might sign up and start posting here then

Pulling off a transition like this can easily take several 100 total people-hours. Time consuming one-time tasks and a very steep learning curve. End-User expectations are high while viable resources are scarce. Lowell is likely swamped with responsibilities [[due diligence) and expectations [[ours).

^What Crumbled_pavement said. Still trying to figure out migration on my testing board. Also I have to make a living and things have been hectic. That's good I guess.

I was able to import the user accounts but the passwords, which are hashed so even I don't know what they are, did not match up with the hashing on the new board. No passwords. First attempt to migrate threads and posts also failed.

I am leaning toward having everyone just sign up again. It doesn't take long. I will resolve it this week, one way or the other. When that happens it will be like Lil pup say, just flip the switch off on the other one and leave it on here.

Thank your for your testing and help.

I'd vote for signing up again. After all, we are here aren't we?

Posting in every message thread, a sticky of sorts on the top of every forum, giving people the message that it's time to sign up for everybody. I think that the implication of the beta testing is scaring most people away.

Making the announcement, keeping the archived threads in the old site, and moving here for all discussion is a good thing.

It becomes like the DTV changeover. Always the unprepared. I think maybe the post counts can be modified, or just start over for everyone? Wer'e ahead now!
