Definitely seconding the Shatila ice cream. The coconut ice cream is the best ice cream on the planet!

Labne from the Green Cedar dairy in Dearborn. Labne is most like a cross between sour cream and cream cheese. You can find it at most Arabic food stores, costs about $2 for a 16 oz container. It's great on sandwiches, perfect on a torn piece of pita bread, is killer on French toast with lemon or brown sugar.

Also good stuff. I like to mix it with honey and use it as a fruit dip. I just made some homemade labne and it is great.

Off the top of my head -

Greta's Ginger Juice - I buy it at Western Market in Ferndale - it's blended with pineapple and it's so good.

Nikki's Ginger Tea & Sorrel- I get them both at Goodwell's in midtown and also at Eastern Market. I also really love their vegetarian chili.

Those raisin donuts at Dutch Girl are to DIE for.

Avalon Bakery chocolate chip/chunk sea salt cookies !

ANYTHING from Sweet Potato Sensations bakery - Lahser & Grand River Ave - lemon chess pie, sweet potato pie, pecan pie - they even have a sugar free sweet potato pie that is yummy. Oh, and sweet potato cookies which are kind of bland but in a really good way.

Vegan Reuben from Sprout House in Grosse Pointe Park

Panda baked tofu - made in Royal Oak - I usually buy it from Goodwell's - the spicy version is my favorite.

Spring Rolls from Bangkok Cuisine in Eastpointe on Gratiot - best I've ever had anywhere, really light & crisp

Torta from Los Galanes in Mexicantown - I am vegan 99.9% of the time but I make an occasional exception for one for one of these sandwiches [[it has chicken on it)

Okay - this last item isn't from Detroit - it is from Toledo but I'm including it because I go to this place once a month or so and if I moved away, I'd really miss it - festival from Dexter's Jamaican restaurant. Festival is basically a fried cornmeal dumpling. Little puffs of heaven!

When I travel outside of Detroit/michigan, I really miss the availability and access to Canadian beers. I know if you look hard enough you can get either nationwide but walk into any bar, venue, store, or restraunt in Detroit and they have it, usually at a close to domestic price too.
