Martha Jean and my Grandmother were actually good friends. They were friends in Memphis before moving to Detroit inspite of the fact that my Grandmother was old enough to be her mother. Martha Jean was a firm believer in elevating the economic and social status of Black people. She is also an example of the pure opportunity that existed in Detroit for Blacks at that time. Detroit nurtured and created some of the most successful Blacks in the country and their presence is felt all around the world. The sad thing is, even though they were accepted with open arms elsewhere, they were often shunned in the Motorcity, but thats a story for another thread..lol
