The original 60s Mustang was based on the US Falcon which was Ford's first "small car". The Falcon was Robert McNamara's baby before he left Ford to screw up the Defense Department. McNamara was a firm believer in "austere" cars and wanted rubber floor mats and limited color choices [[preferably black). Iacocca was the father of the Mustang. He and his followers hid the Mustang designs from McNamara because he would have ordered them destroyed. When McNamara left, the Mustang was rolled out three years later.

We know Australia is the last bastion of the big V-8 and rear-wheel drive platform, because we've seen the future in the Mad Max chronicles, right?!

You guys are crazy over there...

That made me look twice. My mom had a Falcon when I was a kid and it was anything but a large sedan!

Wikipedia article on the US Ford Falcon [[1960-1970)

Ford has also used the name for various Ford products in foreign countries.

It was a very bad year in 2012 for the Falcon, only 14,000 [use to do 85,000] sold out of 1.11 million new vehicles sold in 2012 [a new record for us], Falcon will most likely die in 2016, Ford Australia failed by not exporting the Falcon, i think the Americans ie Ford HQ did not give Ford AUS much choice in the matter

    Look at the positives

V8's are now much more enviro cleaner and use less fuel than any time in history.

    Long Live V8's!!

    Cheers

The 2015 Falcon will resemble our Fusion but with an awesome fastback shape.

How do you know this, do you work for FoMoCo?, any photos rleased yet?

Its a pity but its all too late for Aussie made Falcon's, just not selling in the numbers required.

    Cheers

That looks like it is based on the next version of the Mustang. Rumor has it that Flat Rock will be building variants off of the RWD platform for the next Mustang. These will not be simple rebadges in that the tooling should be able to accomplish some reshaping of exterior panels. Hopefully this product will have an option for a Cyclone V8.

Long Live V8's!!V8's are dying a slow death, except for use in pickups. V6's will be the norm going forward, with the power of a V8 with better fuel economy.

I meant Coyote V8 in my previous post. Engine downsizing combined with modern turbos is an effective way to offer power while meeting both fuel economy and emission regulations. Still, the V8 finds a way to soldier on.
