Show me how tort reform is going to bring our health care costs in line with other civilized nations, as well as provide insurance for 46 million people, when payments due to torts are estimated to consist of 7% of health care costs.

I, as a professional, do not believe in the idea of lawfully relieving other professionals of their legal responsibility to uphold the public welfare, and the consequences when they fail to do so.

Perhaps if said legislation actually made an honest effort to work toward the goals established by President Obama, it may have made it to the floor.

Let's presume your simplistic proposition becomes law. What happens when a physician conducts malpractice? Most people aren't going to have the money to hire counsel to combat a team of attorneys retained by a hospital.

Your reasoning is bullshit. If someone dies because I endanger public safety through my professional actions, I lose my license. I don't even have to wait for someone to sue me, although that is certainly a possibility as well. Why should you be held to any lower standard? Essentially, you're saying that physicians should be immune to criminal negligence, and only held accountable to civil statutes. Complete and utter crap.

Even still, reducing health care costs by 7% does not get us anywhere near other civilized countries, whom we outspend by a whopping 50% for inferior results. Nor does your lazy proposition provide care for the poorest Americans.
