Default Windsor city councilor pitches permanent LED light display for downtown

I don't think this is going to bring people back downtown but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Agostino pitches year-round light display for downtown Windsor [[msn.com)

The city study itself says it is not feasible, and the city does not even generate enough electricity to even support it.

Closing roads for months is usually pretty detrimental to existing businesses.

Judging from comments in the articles,it appears as if the downtown is struggling with what every downtown does, how to make it a safe place while displacing the people that make it not a safe and enjoyable place for people to visit.

They have to be moved somewhere else, where?

Fence the entire érea in to lower security costs? Fences do not stop people intent on nefarious things.

It takes an investment into the community in order to improve it,which involves short term pain for long term gain, but outside of pet projects, how does downtown Windsor want to be identified as ?

One would think that instead of spending all of this money on studies with lights it would be more beneficial to have some kind of master plan?

Usually when one spends money on a study and the city says, this is not a good idea, that should be the first clue it is not.

In the link within the article it shows an arched light covered walkway,it’s been years that I have seen snow, but if memory serves me right, when it snows it covers things? Correct?

The casino didn't help but I think it was the mall/big box stores killing downtown retail like every small city. After 9/11 the border crossing hassles stopped Metro Detroiters from hopping over for lunch/dinner like they used to do. Like Detroit, it won't be what it once was but if they can get more residents downtown, continue to grow the college and university presence and focus on entertainment it can be better than it is now.

I think it is funny when people talk about the evil billionaires, but yet they work for them and purchase everything from them and prioritize spending with them over the local small business that helps build communities.

They hate the very thing they created and nurtured.

Just like the neighborhoods in Detroit of the past, they were communities when the residents found them to be a place of live work and play,it was home.

It’s hard for cities to reinvent themselves, but many have, but personally I am not sure if it is actually better, prettier buildings, less trash and crime and people existing somewhere simply because.

When I see smaller cities go for the wealth, that’s what they get,a sterilization aspect of wealth,I kinda think there is more “charm” in a city that has not gotten to that point yet,Kinda stuck in the middle of desolate and uppity.

If Windsor got to the point where it wants to be,90% of the current population would no longer even be there, they would be priced out.

There has to be some kind of middle ground .

    Windsor is not Las Vegas.
