Default 910 AM radio station announces new conservative talk format

Boycott the sponsors. There's nothing conservative about suspending the Constitution.

Younger folks might not remember that life was far less rancorous and far more collaborative under the FCC fairness doctrine.

America pulled together or at least not apart. <sigh>

In 1991 WCHB, African American owned, had switched to an all talk format with a slew of Black talkshows that aired from 6am to around 1am the following morning. The Bell Brothers sold the station by the end of the decade. The station went to I think sports or gospel. The staion was purchased by a Kathy Hughes and returned to a mostly talk format station. Hughes sold the station 16 years or so later to a new owner whom switch it to all sport talk. The moral to this story is if Blacks want an all talk format station in Detroit someone in the black community would have to buy a station him or herself.

In addition, last Friday, 910 AM's owner Adell Broadcasting has also added The CW their TV station, WADL Channel 38, with both it and their existing MyNetworkTV lineup now occupying the 8 PM-midnight timeslot and the station now branding as "CW 38."

The two networks' respective former local affiliates, WKBD and WMYD [[which lost MyNet to WADL in 2021), are now independent stations. Accordingly, WKBD has become "Detroit 50."

There are a lot of stations on the AM and FM dials and everybody has a tuner to select the station they want to listen to. No one is forced to listen to something they do not want or like. The demands for media censorship are rather childish.

All of the talk show hosts on 910 probably knew they on the air on borrowed times. Many had gained free exposure while pounding on their podiums. Only one or two had continued their platforms on YouTube or Facebook. Many just went their ways while thumbing their noses at their loyal listening audiences

There are already over 90 radio stations available in the Detroit Metro area. Just turn the dial if you don't like the music or opinions expressed.I recommend NPR for a leftist establishment take.

When conservatives complain about media censorship by social networks including Facebook, Google, and the former Twitter, they are told that those are private companies that can censor their messages however they want as opposed to being part of the public square. Take heart, billionaire Democrat George Soros is bankrolling leftist radio stations in rural areas across the Country. Detroit, like any other large city, already has a diversity of viewpoints and music across its radio dial.

The nothing in the Constitution about limiting free speech. Instead, it says,

"Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press"

A lot of people seem to forget the freedom of speech principle both prevents the government from stopping you from saying something, but also prevents the government from *forcing* you to say something. This is why the fairness doctrine was overturned. Public airwaves are treated somewhat differently, but the argument was made, successfully, that it had little effect on viewpoint discrimination. There might be some markets that skew one way or another, but market forces have more to do with that than networks forcing viewpoints upon people. As for the Detroit market, you can find all kinds of viewpoints on the radio across the dial. If you don't like one, switch to another station. Also, if someone calls and asks you to take a radio listening survey, take it, as it makes a large difference in ad rates for radio stations.

The internet is a different beast altogether, as there is a different regulatory regime in play involving section 230 protections.
