Bollinger Motors plans $44M metro Detroit investment, 237 new jobs

Bollinger Motors Inc. aims to invest $44 million at its Livonia manufacturing plant and Oak Park headquarters in an expansion that would create 237 jobs.
The homegrown electric truck startup, bought by Mullen Automotive Inc. last year, is preparing to launch production of its first vehicle, a Class 4 EV, in the first half of next year, according to a briefing memo from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. The board of the MEDC's funding arm, the Michigan Strategic Fund, on Tuesday approved a $3 million performance-based grant for the project, which the MEDC said would offset the additional cost of expanding in Michigan versus a competing site in Indiana. The jobs are expected to pay an average of $55.37 per hour plus benefits. The company presently employs 55 in Michigan. Bollinger will also team with Michigan Works to recruit local talent in disadvantaged areas, the memo said.

Bollinger contracted Roush Industries as its third-party assembly manufacturer in Livonia to manage production of its vehicles, but the name of the company was not disclosed.

Brea, Calif.-based Mullen bought a 60% stake in Bollinger for $148.2 million in September. Shortly after the announcement, Novi-based Our Next Energy Inc. was tapped to supply Bollinger with electric batteries on Class 4-6 chassis cabs, marking the end of in-house battery development for Bollinger.

They did not do well with their first vision of light duty trucks and are now switching to class 4 which is 6.4 to 7.2 tons.

However, Bollinger builds on the US Inflation Reduction Act recently signed into law by President Joe Biden and expects the B4 to be eligible for the 30% tax credit up to $40,000 under the newly created 45W Commercial EV Tax Credit.

That’s the scary part because when it comes to all of this it requires heavy government subsidies in order to work,it brings back the nightmare of solar and wind turbines that crashed when countries slashed subsidies when the economy would not support it.

In Belgium, backed by England,Microsoft etc a company completed it’s 10 th flight with a hydrogen powered commercial airplane.

That’s the wrench in all of this spending trillions on EVs and battery technology, hydrogen power is gaining leaps and bounds technology wise over EVs,and is actually more save the planet friendly then EV production and the infrastructure that it requires.

Do not need millions of battery chargers planted all across the country with hydrogen power.

Technology is fascinating at times,by the time EVs hit mainstream, they will already be obsolete, but the debt paying on the money that it took you to get to the point of obsoletion, does not become obsolete,it is still owed.

As a consumer what are you going to purchase,a car that you have to keep charging or one that you just fill the tank in under 15 minutes and go 400 miles ,try that with a fast charger.
