If you believe Jared Goff has been on some kind of trial/test for the future, I think it's safe to say he has passed that test this season. That doesn't mean we won't take a QB somewhere in next year's draft. It just means there's no sense of urgency or reason for Holmes to pick one if he feels the right guy isn't there. I can give you 3 more reasons. Their names were Harrington, Long, & Ware, and that's not a law firm.

Holmes would show me a lot in this draft by believing our defensive line needs to be as good and have as much depth as our offensive line.

    Forward down the field....

It sure was a fun playing the whole game with an ever increasing lead last Sunday. Lions played well on both sides of the ball including Goff who had an excellent game. Sunday will be a tough challenge playing the Vikings but that’s why they play the games. Gooo… Lions!

It's great at this point to be playing some meaningful games in December. However, the Lions better win out the last 5 games to get in the playoffs. 4 wins most likely isn't going to do it.

The only thing that's going to make me really happy is a playoff appearance and a playoff win. We've had numerous playoff appearances through the years, those are terrific, but it's way beyond time for a playoff win.

And please don't let me hear about let's wait until next year, we'll have a good draft position in April. I've heard that one before too many times.

Yeah, a slim chance that 5 games will do it. Two Ohio teams rebuilt with high draft choices, i.e., Cleveland and Cincinatti; the former failed miserably, the latter probably is going to the Superbowl again. Now Cleveland's QB is a serial molester who ought to be banned from the NFL. I hope that the Lions follow the path of the Bengals rather than Cleveland.

P.S. Goff is only 28 years old. Can the Lions do better in drafting a franchise QB? I doubt it.

P.P.S. IMHO Trinity Benson and Quintez Cephus will be released outright or traded for late round draft picks. Almost no value added with those two.

I don't gamble. Have never been in a casino. Never played poker. blackjack, etc. Not from religious conviction or principle of any kind. Prolly just lack the kind of endocrinal secretions related to risk addiction. Also, prolly addicted to keeping my money from organized crime. But it's a free country IMHO. I'm not going to be surprised if the Lions beat the Vikings tomorrow. Both teams are pretty healthy now. With a 17-game schedule and short preseason, injuries happen early, and then later much depends on which team more fully rehabs.

P.S. The Lions' coaches, scouts, and GM are impressive.

    Well done, Lions!

    LIONS 34
    VIKINGS 23

    6-7

    Thirteen down four to go.

Goff did a lot of cue pass TD plays. Lions' defenses hold off Vikings raid. Still in the hunt for the playoffs. Keep it cats.

Lions played well and won a big game. The next one is gonna be even bigger. Fun stuff.

I would like to point out thought the crowd at Ford Field today was bad. They positively sucked. If anyone doesn't know the lions want quiet when on offense. Quiet is the opposite of the chanting “LETTS GO LIONS’ booming from the corners and end zones when the lions are on offense huddling and going to the line making audibles. When the players were waving their arms towards the ground and screaming shut up they can’t hear it’s a major clue that the noise is unwanted from there own fans and is causing problems for them.

The next major fan gaff is the loud wave that went all around the stadium continually during a critical drive in the forth QT to take the lead back up to 2 possessions. Lions players were trying to get it to stop to no avail.

Lions are playing there best ball of the year here maybe the their own fans could help them instead of hinder them.

When lions are on D-fence be as loud as you want to be, bother the other teams offense for a change instead of our own offense. Hopefully it’s better for the Bears game on New Year’s Day.

Fans haven't had anything to cheer about in that stadium for years, they're just getting a little overzealous, is all. I'm sure the players would rather be a little frustrated at the fans than look up and see empty seats, or fans with bags over their heads. It's good to see some positive energy at Ford Field again. I got tickets to the Bears game for the family, and am really looking forward to it. And, yes, I'll be sure to be quiet when they're on offense, but I won't be getting in any fights telling others to quiet down.

It feels weird to actually expect the Lions to win a game.

    Lions at Jets:

Whichever team is healthier will win. One or both of the Okwara brothers will be active. Hopefully, Jeff Okudah will recover from his illness. IMHO unless the Jets play flawlessly, they will lose four or five points.

People who are clamoring for the Lions to use a high pick on a QB need to look to the Jets for reason to at least consider that it might not be the best use of resources.

Since 2009, they've drafted in the first or second round Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, some guy named Christian Hackenberg, Sam Darnold, and most recently, Zach Wilson, who seems to have fallen out of favor faster than even Joey Harrington managed.

I don't think Goff is as great as he's been playing the last few weeks, but I don't think he's as bad as he's looked during the periods where he's struggled. Is somewhere in between good enough? I think it can be if they continue to build top level talent up and down the rest of the roster, which they definitely have a chance to do.

That's a pretty concise evaluation of Jared Goff. Plus, This year's QB class isn't that great. I wouldn't have said this at the beginning of the year, but as long as Goff provides average or better QB play, the Lions don't need to take a QB with a high pick this year.

It's really not a great class? 8 of the top 10 Heisman finalists were qb's. I think if a guy you really like falls in your lap either with your 2nd 1st round pick or 2nd round pick you grab him.

Agreed. Goff has matured into a good leader, but it's still a team sport. He's quick in picking up coverage reads, and his throws are accurate. He's surrounded by loads of offensive talent, both running and receiving. And he's only 28 years old.

Goff has played plenty good enough in the last 6 games. No doubt about it. 6 games doesn’t a career make. He has 4 games to go with much higher pressure to win than he’s ever had here. It would only make sense to see how the remainder of the season plays out. No reason to make draft decisions when they still have something to play for. Goo.. Lions!

The reason he's having a good year is the O-line. Detroit has a top 5 OL in the NFL. He's rarely sacked, and they keep him clean, giving him time to throw. Good teams build inside out, and Holmes is following that pattern. Ben Johnson calling good plays also helps. He keeps the defense on its heels. They don't need a QB, just build around him. People forget Goff helped lead the Rams to the SB.

Agreed, and it bothers me that linemen positions are called unskilled positions. It's just that the skills aren't ball-handling skills except for centers and long-snappers.

P.S. I'm hoping that Aidan Hutchinson recovers from illness by Sunday.

What a win! Jared Goff wasn't sharp, but Zach Wilson was worse. I'm enjoying this immensely - we finally have a relevant December! It's going to take a while to get over decades of hurt and confusion, but I'm getting there.

    Close call Lions!

    LIONS 20
    JETS 17

    7-7

    Fourteen down three to go.

From a 1-6 deficit to a 7-7 streak. And still in the hunt for the Wild Card slot. Nice job Goff. I'm glad that the Jets missed that field goal. Keep it going blue cats.
