Neighborhood investments will continue regardless of crime, look at North End, Herman Kiefer, and Linwood Avenue near the hospital. But crime reduction would speed up the process of gentrification.

Put another way, you'd like me and others to stop posting negative signals and bury our heads in the sand? Award-winning restaurants closing in Detroit and de facto Detroit does not bode well for downtown, that is a fact. We were building up a restaurant scene the last five to 10 years and that is clearly eroding. Remove the dining and nightlife from Detroit and what do you have to draw in the sprendthrifts we need? What is our draw to pay big bucks to live here? Empty storefronts and no. 1 in the U.S. crime isn't exactly inviting.

Award-winning restaurants are closing all over the country. That in/of itself isn't an indictment of Detroit.

Last I checked, we're still in the midst of a Global Pandemic, and people simply aren't able to dine out like they could before.

Exodus to suburbs is genuine.
"The movement to the suburbs is a real thing. Our suburban housing market is on fire. I have friends and family members living downtown who are looking toward the suburbs."
Projects will stall.
Work from home here to stay, nobody knows yet what %.
Retail is biggest struggle.

Several restaurants have closed, and I am sure, some will continue to close as this isolation-lifestyle continues until there is a cure for the coronavirus. However, there are restaurants that have opened recently.

Just went to Olin yesterday for brunch: excellent food at reasonable prices, great space and great service. The place would have been packed if it wasn't for the "every other table must be empty" covid rule of the day.

“This neighborhood was getting halfway there, and then got stunted,” said David Armin-Parcells, who owns the shop with wife Melissa. “That’s been Detroit’s story for 40 years, 50 years.”
The wine bar did well during the summer with its outdoor patio. But because most of its business is alcohol, it can’t seat a full house inside under state rules. Armin-Parcells isn’t sure what they’ll do as the weather turns cold.

The pain has spilled over to Detroit’s outskirts, to nearby Dearborn. Before the pandemic, Ford was planning to revamp its depressing campus there with modern, open-feeling buildings. The project, and renovation of a decrepit railroad station in Detroit, are still on but will be scaled back.

Nope, look at the listings, vast majority in Michigan and the biggest portion are engineers in Warren. Only other locations are some in Texas and Georgia.

This has nothing to do with downtown btw.

Uhh yes it does, Job listings have locations for a reason, that's literally where they're employed. Remotely within southeast Michigan, sure.

IDK how anybody could sit here and act like a job listing in Warren means they're employing people across the world lol.

My daughter is an engineer at GM Tech; yes they work from home now. Have been since March and probably will be until at least June of next year. That doesn't mean no one will ever be going into work again. Also, working at GM Tech, in house or remote, really doesn't affect the restaurant issues downtown. Never did.
