I disappear in the park systems of North America in various seasons
including winter, and have no issue being UNavailable for days on end.
Instead or "relying" on electric power, you use it sparingly, as a crutch.
Same with the GPS, turn it on occasionally, get location, turn it off.
Really not needed, but nice to have music, light, nav backup, etc., etc.
