It’s crazy that all media outlets are reporting that this was “Greektown” or “near Greektown.” This is neither. I guess they want people to feel that this doesn't happen in the gentrified part of downtown.
Um yeah.... this was NOT in Greektown... the article said NEAR Greektown... but if you look at a map... Beaubien & Congress is just as far from the Renaissance Center as it is to Greektown.
I wonder if it had anything to do with St. Andrew's Hall?
Hard to believe that the city is way more button downed then it used to be.
^^^ Sounds like folks were acting rather gentlemanly!
If the Dem's give more 100-millions to the Ilitches, maybe this will help?
Get your geography in order... that's not Ilitch's area... it has actual buildings on it so it's Gilbert's area... and not the empty parking quarter.
From your political 'leanings'... you should watch this movie....

I don't know. To me that area would be Greektown to an outsider. Isn't that where the Detroiter Bar area? And people mover calls the area "Bricktown". It's close enough the thread is there. And it is a couple of blocks from St. Andrews which of course isn't Greektown but just part of that whole chunk of downtown [[and it seems to me there were a good number of shootings there when I was younger...Three Floors of Fun combined every kind of person because of the floor themes...always interesting wait in line...and there was a hip-hop club next to St. Andrews and forgot the name). If I were from out of town, this would be part of the bar/nightclub area that I would probably see as Greektown. There isn't much demarcation between those blocks and people are parking in those areas to go to the Casino on non-sports weekend nights quite often.

Slightly paraphrased, but as Chief Craig started speaking about what the DPD was going to start doing since seeing an "Uptick of violence" his first change was to start enhancing traffic enforcement on Friday, Saturday and Sunday? Really? To tackle the increased number of sexual assaults city wide and shootings downtown and "Traffic enforcement" is the priority? Seems a bit odd to me.Chief Craig provides crime and safety update to Detroit City Council

Had anyone heard of someone randomly shooting unto the streets from parking structures? I had heard that rumor this past weekend.
