That would assume A. Trump is a thoughtful and strategic thinker and B. There's an underlying method to the utter madness in the White House. Both highly unlikely assumptions, IMO.

Per Occam's razor, simplest explanation is usually most accurate. Trump isn't trying to distract from his Russian collusion; it just happens that a serial adulterer and proponent of sexual assault is getting heat from the countless women he's "screwed" one way or the other all while his Evangelical "values voters" base is exposed as the biggest bunch of hypocrites on the planet.

Just to be 100% clear, the only reason "Stormy" is coming and the only reason anyone knows who she is is because Trump [[his lawyer anyway) paid her $130,000 to not talk about "something" [[which Stormy says were consensual sexual activities).

Trump's lawyer has acknowledged that he made the payment, and right now Trump's legal team is suing Stormy for "breaking or threatening to break" the non-disclosure agreement, according to the terms of the contract.

The payment and the NDA are facts which are confirmed by Trump's legal team.

If the hush money was paid in the context of protecting his campaign, then the payment violated campaign finance laws. But it's not likely to go anywhere and even if he was found guilty I don't think there are major consequences. There's also no indication that this is connected to Russia, so this is unrelated to and outside of the scope of Mueller's Russia investigation.
