I think you are stereotyping. I, for one, seldom watch TV and it is not a news source for me. I did turn on the TV yesterday in order to find CBS to watch the USNWT play Brazil. To my disappointment, the local CBS affiliate chose to program golf programming instead of the soccer match. From what I read, Fox has disgruntled some of its viewers by doing things e.g. like hiring Donna Brazile and taking a less populist course. Donna Brazile, you will recall, went out on an airport tarmac with a cheat sheet of questions that would be asked in the next debate to share with Hillary. After the game I did find this refreshing piece supporting your point that Fox news promulgates full of right wing facts.

I did open your second link in which Lou Dobbs called the Senate kangaroo court 'unconstitutional' and attacked Dominion. I agree that a kangaroo court trying anyone but the President [[Biden) and substitution a partisan hack for the Chief Justice was unconstitutional if Democrats really considered it a trial. Using Dominion machines fouled up the Antrim County vote and more recently its machines were shown to have made 300 vote difference in every race in a New Hampshire Township in favor of Democrats. I'm for paper ballots. On those two points, Lou Dobbs made more sense than CNN which condescending told its viewers how to think in that video. I don't know why that type of intellectual paternalism appeals to anyone but then I'm not a Democrat. Democrats also seem to condone the cancel culture, a form of censorship; a Dominion lawsuit in this case, used to intimidate Fox owners into dumping Dobbs.

This issue is much larger than any one disruptor. We see it in countless online news comment sections or indeed anywhere public comment is invited.

Its purpose isn't to persuade anyone. It's not an attack against any individual. It's not even an attack against any specific forum. It's an attack against fora in general. It's an Orwellian jujutsu strategy meant to turn freedom of speech against itself. It's a form of censorship through the back door.

We all understand why oligarchs try to censor their opposition. Their problem is how that can be accomplished in environments where censorship is all but forbidden?

The only way left is to draw attention with spectacle, to arrest attention by engaging passions, angers, fears — emotions. It renders independent thought and voluntary collaboration impotent. Trump mastered this technique. It's not infallible. It's just the only form of censorship extant. That can be a good thing.

So what can be done? There's that ignore feature. I don't use it. I think it's better to develop and exercise our own freedom to ignore. That can be used even in places that don't have an ignore feature.
