    Default Windsor Booming?

Some good economic news for Windsor today:

Average home price is up 14%

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windso...-000-1.3569639

Unemployment has dropped to 6.4% from 11.4% a year ago.

    * as to the above, because Canada and the U.S. calculate unemployment differently, the apples to apples comparison usually involves lowering the Canadian number by roughly 1%

That means the Windsor number is roughly inline w/Metro Detroit now.

The drop in unemployment is good news. It's been many years since Windsor's rate was lower than London and Toronto. It's mostly due to Chrysler hiring 1,500 more workers and other auto related employment. Windsor is as dependent on the auto industry as the Detroit area, if not more so. It would be great if they could attract some non-manufacturing companies to diversify their employment.

    Very good news...

    Just to add, ...

This is below Canada's national unemployment rate of 7.4%.

Minimum wage in Michigan is $8.50 an hour and $11.25 an hour in Ontario [[going up to $11.40 in a few months). With the exchange, the min. wage is similar.

Also worth noting is from 2011-2016, Windsor's population grew by about 10,000 people. Windsor-Essex's population grew by about 20,000 people. So, the decrease in the unemployment rate wasn't due to a mass exodus of residents leaving the city for other parts of the country. http://www.citywindsor.ca/residents/...rojections.pdf
