Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, executive director and health officer for the city of Detroit's Health Department, said officials are confident that the problem originates in old piping or fixtures within schools, not the city water that flows into them.

The bolded is the key difference between the situation with DPS and Flint.

A lot of Flint, Governor's Office, MDEQ, and EPA officials seemed to be confident about such things. And they were wrong. I'd have been more convinced if Mr. El-Sayed actually said they did monitoring, and have been doing so since before Flint.

I was pointing out that, just because Flint was getting water that contained lead mitigation chemicals before the switch-over, doesn't mean that there was no lead getting into Flint's water supply. This proves my point. DPS buildings are getting properly treated water and still have problems with lead.
