Snyder aide: Flint residents ‘getting blown off by us’
What's laughable is how quiet the typically vocal Snyder bots on this forum have been on this situation.

WXYZ: What did Snyder know about Flint's water crisis?
This "cost cutting" is now going to cost a previously unnecessary $1.5 billion?!
How much damage does a governor have to cause before he himself gets replaced with an Emergency Manager like those he has inflicted on so many other officials? Is not "what's sauce for the goose — sauce for the gander"? Or does he instead get some special immunity to cause unlimited damage?
It's good to be the king.

And now a moment from Huffington Post!
Rick Snyder Ducks Question On What He Knew About Flint's Water
He says a task force will tell us later what he knew and when.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/...b0a2b6fb6ef441
From article:
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder [[R) didn't want to get into details of what he knew and when about the Flint water crisis on Thursday.
In a July email, a top Snyder aide worried Flint residents were "basically getting blown off by us" over their concerns about high lead levels in the city's water. It wasn't until October that the state water agency admitted it had made a mistake that led to the poisoning of an untold number of children.
A reporter asked Snyder what he knew and when he knew it.
"Well, again, we're going through that whole process," Snyder said, speaking at a press conference with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, a Democrat. Snyder and Weaver said they would be cooperating on the crisis response; Snyder said the independent task force he created in October would address the question of who knew what and when.
"They're going to come out with a report and I look forward to the report," Snyder said. "And as I previously said, as they've come out with items they put in the report, we've been very prompt about taking actions in response to what their findings were."

At the risk of sounding like a city councilman.......I am in my small Washington town........what roll did the Flint city council or the mayor have in this whole mess, or does the blame lie completely with Gov. Snyder and the state appointed emergency manager.
Seems to me that council dropped the ball here. Do they not have the power?
We were under the control of the Emergency manager. The Mayor and the City Council had their power stripped by the governor. City council voted to stay with Detroit water until the pipeline to Port Huron was completed but their vote meant nothing. The mayor tried to quell the public outrage by attempting to pass along the incorrect information that the water was safe [[he was going off the false information provided by the state). At the risk of sounding like a city councilman.......I am in my small Washington town........what roll did the Flint city council or the mayor have in this whole mess, or does the blame lie completely with Gov. there should be criminal consequences for several people in government [[and even recently resigned from their posts). If these people simply move on to cushy consultancies and the like, that's unforgivable.
There has to be a complete overhaul in the water/sewage infrastructure in the Flint vicinity. No excuses about "socialism", just do the ___damn work.
In the next election cycle, nobody running for office should be able to get away without having a public opinion about this crisis [[Bill Schuette, this includes you). If they even remotely defend the Snyder administration, they need to be ignored and voted against. [[Bill Schuette, this includes you.)
That was my perspective on things as well.We were under the control of the Emergency manager. The Mayor and the City Council had their power stripped by the governor. Essentially, the situation elected officials face in Flint is the equivalent to a driver being forced to transport a carjacker against their will or risk the carjacker harming them.
Rest assured, other than the hardcore Snyder apologists, all reasonable people familiar with this debacle place the blame solely on the Governor and the people he personally appointed.

The mayor and his administration did not fair well in November, the people wanted him to fight for us, they saw him as a yes man for the governor [[I did not share this same thought, Mayor Walling lives around the corner from me and I always found him to be quite trustworthy). The jury is still out on our new mayor although she is off to a good start getting Snyder to sign the State of Emergency. I worry she might be a one trick pony because the water issue was all that she campaigned on and she has close ties to Woodrow Stanley, Eric Mays and Sam Riddle.
The DEQ also dropped the ball. My biggest problem all along was that everyone with half a brain should know that the Flint River is essentially a Superfund site. The yellow, stinky water immediately after making the switch should have been convincing enough. Then, why the DEQ chose not to put the anti-corrosion element into the treatment process, while most other water treatment plant around the country do, is beyond comprehension. Then to let the process linger on for another 20 months, attempting to gloss over it, is even more crazy. As far as the EPA is concerned, ANY amounts of lead in water, paint dust from construction sites [[ I had to take a class or face 30K fines), gasoline, etc, is considered dangerous to children and expectant mothers, and to let this situation go as officials sat idly by is reprehensible. At the risk of sounding like a city councilman.......I am in my small Washington town........what roll did the Flint city council or the mayor have in this whole mess, or does the blame lie completely with Gov. the early reports say MDEQ is at fault.
this is pretty much the worst news possible. MDEQ tests all water in michigan.
we cant trust MDEQ right NOW. we cant trust MDEQ for the past 2 years.
whats this mean? whats the water like in detroit? or the rest of the state?
no one knows. MDEQ lied, multiple times. also, somehow someone, either snyder or mdeq was able to silence the federal water employee who was investigating flints water and the one who issued the early warning report. remember? the final report was less harsh than the early report.
so now we cant trust MDEQ and now we cant trust the feds.
http://flintwaterstudy.org/2015/09/c...-water-crisis/
According to Walters and Mays, Shekter-Smith bragged that “Mr. Del Toral has been handled,” and that Flint residents would not be hearing from him again. Moreover, MDEQ asserted that Mr. Del Toral’s interim memo detailing the many problems with Flint’s [[non-existent) corrosion control program “would never be finalized.” Just yesterday, NPR released a slightly different, but enlightening version of Wurfel’s take on Del Toral and the memo:
http://www.npr.org/2015/09/29/444497...s-water-source
MDEQ spokesman Brad Wurfel says the report was the work of a “rogue employee,” and promised the final report — not yet released — would tell a much different story.

non-flint residents, do you trust your water now?
It might even go higher than that. Someone on a federal level could have "asked" the employees to look the other way.
Trust No One.
I'm not a huge fan of Rachel Maddow, BUT she had a pretty thorough piece on the Flint water crisis last week
Maybe it's time to save for a whole house filter. I already filter drinking water but maybe I shouldn't be showering in it either.the early reports say MDEQ is at fault.

It is hard to overstate the enormity of the Flint water scandal, from the lasting harm to residents’ health to the depth and complexity of the corruption that caused it to happen.
The Flint water problem did not result from the DEQ dropping the ball once, twice, or even ten times. Hundreds of people were involved in the switchover and should have sounded alarms at every turn.
This was a preventable public health disaster over which people should go to jail for criminal malfeasance and misconduct.
I predict the unfolding story will result in this DY conversation becoming a HOF thread.
Very true. The entire situation is abhorrent. You had residents with murky water daily being told they were wrong and the water was ok. We had to get Virginia Tech water testers because MI Dept. Environmental Quality was incompetent. Their head "resigns" he should have been fired. How long it took for MI to act in the face of citizen's severe worries is atrocious.

Wait..didn't FEMA barrel through town UN-announced last June? I guess they should have tested the water while they were there.Oh snap. Now they gotta come back and set up camps all over again.Gross mis-management just keeps screwing over the population on a consistent basis.
I suppose one day they will try to convince us that Soylent ISN'T made out of people! </S>
I bet Snyder manages to wade through all this unscathed, when he's the one most culpable. Just like he's letting DPS die on the vine as well. I knew this guy was a "snake oil" salesman from the beginning, and my opinion of him hasn't wavered.

Snyder looks like a HUGE tool in the national press.
He looked highly annoyed to be at the press conference yesterday, and his voice was a lot more gravelly than usual.
Cold coming on, Dick?
Can't sleep at night you worthless POS?
Arlan Meekoff seems to think it is "unfortunate" that Dan Wyant "had to resign" and that this incident is a "local problem."

And it's this type of 'tude that got this ball rolling and will keep it rolling for a while.
Too many in this State, and especially in Metro Detroit, have a "fuck'em" view point on this matter.
Really speaks to really how divided this State is.
Some psychos love to brag about what they've done, and one day, the curtain will be pulled back and we'll all be able to see just how bad the conspiracy to fuck this State over was.
What SnyCo. doesn't understand is that you can never, ever run away from history.
The really sad part about all of this is that it took people outside the state of Michigan [[Rachel Maddow and the professor from WV) to blow the lid off this. And it's this type of 'tude that got this ball rolling and will keep it rolling for a while.

That alone speaks large volume on the toxic way we do things around here.
Yet, the same people who are silent on this and haven't condemned Snyder [[although they were always quick to defend him) demanded Kwame Kilpatrick's head before his day in court for the compartively insigniicant crime of perjury.

Lots of partisan rhetoric here, so hard for me to catch up on this one.
Can someone please explain why Snyder is guilty here? And why did Flint leave DWSD? For all the trouble that is DWSD, they seem to at least be able to take clean Lake Huron water [[mostly) and get it to our taps without making it worse. I did think the Flint thing was just a power trip for someone -- but I'm just not seeing how Synder benefited.
There is no rhetoric here. If Snyder knew someone dropped the ball, including himself, he needs to claim responsibility, quit trying to paint him the victim. His legacy as governor will ride on how this turns out, and as far as I'm concerned, his legacy was tarnished as soon as he started pushing through numerous policy changes under a cloak of secrecy.Lots of partisan rhetoric here, so hard for me to catch up on this one.
