Here is a Freep article about human service organizations located near the arena district [[west or north of the arena).

    http://www.freep.com/story/news/loca...less/31347019/

The article mentions the Mariner Inn, which I've referenced as it is located adjacent to property Ilitch Holdings has purchased in the Cass/2nd/Ledyard area. Also a few others.

This article suggests a couple things to me:

1). It indicates that 72 Temple, the infamous by the hour hotel, went for top dollar. I suspect that is true of other properties nearby.

2). The Mariners Inn's folks are considering their options.

"I know nothing" but I guess that the Michigan Chronicle building went for top dollar and that the Mariners Inn building would likewise.

I would assume they could buy a comparable building blocks away and pocket some nice cash.

    Potential win-win for all.

Not sure this is [[or isn't) the best thread for this story, but here goes.

It doesn't discuss what is happening just west of the arena, but FURTHER west by the Ilitch's casino.

It has always been my belief that the Ilitches would try to develop both around their arena and around their casino, essentially 'in-fill' developing the areas around Cass Park, Cass Tech, etc.

I wish I knew more about what the Ilitches bought or are buying west of the arena. I suspect they own more than we know... I doubt they are treating the arena and casino as two 'islands'.

I might add some of the land bought is west of Grand River so it isn't even in Midtown. It is in a 'new' neighborhood.

Curious what neighborhood the MC Casino sits?

BTW, I found a graphic which I saved which has a little more information about land sales west of Cass. [[will insert).

The one at 2nd and Ledyard might be the Baptist center. There are two more structures at the end of the block [[Cass/2nd/Ledyard). The one on 2nd next to the 'bought' building is a residential house with many units. The structure at the corner of Cass/Ledyard is 'boarded up' [[??) commercial.

Have no idea if that is to expand Cass Park, as some one suggested or some 'nefarious [[insert parking joke here)' Ilitch purpose.
