Default The American Ghetto was created by the NEW DEAL/FDR

    This is a BIG DEAL.
    Source: NPR

"We have a myth today that the ghettos in metropolitan areas around the country are what the Supreme Court calls 'de-facto' — just the accident of the fact that people have not enough income to move into middle class neighborhoods or because real estate agents steered black and white families to different neighborhoods or because there was white flight," Rothstein tells Fresh Air's Terry Gross.

"It was not the unintended effect of benign policies," he says. "It was an explicit, racially purposeful policy that was pursued at all levels of government, and that's the reason we have these ghettos today and we are reaping the fruits of those policies."

Big deal - an opposing view. That's a helluva lot more than Fox News will give you.
Thanks NPR for being fair and balanced.

You're right on the money. In fact the Eleanor Roosevelt oversee her president husband F.D.R. on the creation of Housing and Urban Development [[HUD) the first city to create fair equal housing was at Brewster-Douglas Projects where Black bottom and Paradise Valley once stood. The Douglas Projects still there today, but the gulag towers of the Brewsters along with the Jeffries are long gone.

Ghettos existed long before FDR, especially in large northeast cities. They were not then all African American.

Newspaper on the walls for insulation, tar paper for window coverings, lack of running water, multiple families living in a one room apartment is what immigrants of all nationalities had to look forward to as they ventured into the land of the free.

That is what Mrs Roosevelt saw and encouraged her to start HUD.

When my grandfather was building his farm,he his wife and 5 children lived in a 10x20 tin shack with a dirt floor while he traded eggs for lumber to build a house. In Minnesota for 2 years.

Now one can just go pick up a check and have pretty nice digs and still complain.
