Default House Rejects Trade Measure -- Rebuffing Obama’s Dramatic Appeal

House Rejects Trade Measure, Rebuffing Obama's ... [[LINK)

    From article:

"Democrats rejected the president’s entreaties to “play it straight,” and not kill off trade promotion by voting against a program they have so consistently supported, according to Democrats in the room."

WASHINGTON — Hours after President Obama made a dramatic, personal appeal for support, House Democrats on Friday thwarted his push to expand trade negotiating power — and quite likely his chance to secure a legacy-defining accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

In a remarkable blow to a president they have backed so resolutely, House Democrats voted to end assistance to workers displaced by global trade, a program their party created and has supported for four decades.

That move effectively scuttled legislation granting the president trade promotion authority — the power to negotiate trade deals that cannot be amended or filibustered by Congress.

The number of jobs lost will be considerable. The rate of compensation for new employees will be embarrassing, and will deplete the middle class, even more than now.
That, and removal of regulations concerning health, safety, environmental and labor law is a real but not stated goal of the TPP.

When free trade agreements are passed, it puts countries that pay their workers $5.00 a day in DIRECT COMPETITION with American workers. Fair? I think not.

And what happens to all those lost trade tariff dollars that stop coming in to the Government's coffers because of "Free" trade? They have to be replaced with OUR dollars! The Government just doesn't stop spending. They look to the citizens and business who DARE to exist within it's borders to take up the slack.

    F free trade.
