Thread: annoying emails

    Default annoying emails

I constantly have to delete strange emails. I don't go strange places on the internet. I guess my favorite wierd one was for a dating site for jewish widows. Last I looked my husband is still alive but sleeping.

How does one block dumb shit?

I try to be careful about giving out my personal/ business email so I don't get much spam. If I am filling out any surveys or what not I use another junk email account which does not trace to me bay my name.

This is the only forum I am on. I research recipes. I read newspapers. Send emails to friends and family. Not much else.

My husband amuses himelf by deleting my garbage e mails. Sometimes 50 a day. I miss reading personal emails because I get so much clutter junk. At the moment the democratic party is swarming me, thats about 20 a day. We do make small donations on occaision to orgs but always by regular mail.

Good idea to set up another email account. I'll try that. Still no clue how I get on these lists.

I have three email sites. My main one gets the good stuff. My AOL is a mixed bag of beans. But all the junk goes to Yahoo, which i only check once every 3 - 4 months. And delete.

More confirmation I need extra email addresses but still no clue how I get on wierd lists. I suppose email addresses get sold.

Nothing is applicable to my email searches. I even get invites to porn sites. Never been there, never done that. Married 40 years.

Sometimes I go to pet sites, like puggles. They do not come back to bother me. So still puzzled by strange random e mails???????????

could your internet security have something to do with it? i've had "trend micro" anti-virus/security for about 5 years and never had a problem with. it gives you the option to block a lot of those trashy and "non-sense" sites. also has security for social media sites and if you have children, limits their time on them. depending on which program you purchase, it gives you security for up to 5 computers and/or ios or android devices. i usually purchase it from best buy for less than have the price of the company website and free shipping. i originally had norton anti-virus and it was nothing but trash.

I'm really curious why I don't have this problem.

It might be that I'm not too adventurous on the web. It might be that I avoid posting my email address on public forums [[at least in any machine-detectable way). It might be that Norton Security Suite is successfully preventing the problem for me. My Norton AntiSpam email folder is always empty so it might be getting filtered at the server. I'm not aware of missing any non-spam email.

I remember many years ago when this was a serious problem but I haven't had to deal with it in so long that it never crosses my mind.

Just know that there must be some way to solve it, sumas, because I don't have this problem. I wish I could be of more help.

I keep a yahoo too as a dumping ground for stupid things I may sign up for a fair or event. Then I know my main email account will be undesturbed. I also SHUT down my main email account too when I am not using it. I sign in new every time I access it.

Another thought comes to mind. I recall stories where spammers were compromising computers to harvest victims' email address books. They'd then send spam to all the victim's friends.

So it's also important that your correspondents keep their systems secure too.

Happened to me I guess I was sending notes to my friends/family that they were too fat???

Why spammers find this funny leaves me clueless. Not a hobby I would want.

This is why I do a full shut down of my computers when not in use. Or at least I put them in sleep mode with the browsers [quit mode] completely turned off.

It's a bit more work to do so, but I log-in, log-out of my personal/ business email accounts. I avoid leaving them open days or even hours on end.

All of this helps. I wanted a fluffy terry robe for my husband. A friend said try saks. Now I get emails from them too now. I am more of a second hand rose girl. I will do anything for my husband but I truely need little so those emails of specials seem silly.

I buy things like chain saws, want a generator. Harbor freight often has what I want they do not bug me with emails.
