-and while a 21 mile commute of walking and busing is not right, this is what happens when you live an increasingly sedimentary lifestyle. If he wants to loose weight, join a gym and take walks [[though with his history hopefully it doesn't give him PTSD)

Well, It certainly isn't keeping up with inflation or rising costs, even if you do most of your shopping @ the dollar stores. The point is, he could have given up, but he didn't. He stuck it out through amazing odds. Kudos to him. He deserves what bit of luxury he's received, IMO.
